Moose

I know it's really early on, but is his age finally starting to show? I've seen him either directly or indirectly cause several Jake turnovers this year, and he's not catching everything thrown his way like he used to. I haven't gone back to watch the games to see how he has done on blocking plays, but I do know we are getting rushing yardage worth a damn when the boys bounce it outside.

I hate to say it, but I have to agree with Fiz. Maybe we should be doing A LOT more two TE two RB sets with King and Rosario in there, and just let Smitty stretch the field. Early on in games at least.

I know it's almost herecy to say around here, but it looks like Moose is playing based on past reputation and veteran status. Please correct me if I'm wrong, because I don't want to be right.

When did Moose ever have good hands? He makes the amazing catches and then misses the ones that hit him right in the hands. This at business as usual. He is tied for lead in catches with Smith with 19 which will surpass his total of 65 if he stays on this pace.

All removing Moose would do is put more pressure on Smith and ensure safety or corner coverage on one or the other tight ends.

Or without the corner normally covering Moose, maybe they will come on corner blitzes. I am sure Jake would like more folks in his face.

Dumb idea.

He was catching quite a few passes, though. It's just natural to remember the worst parts of the game rather than the good.

Moose is a great receiver and will continue to be one of the dependable players when the Panthers need a 3rd down completion or such (obviously the other would be Smith, and I'm only talking about passing not running).

At first I wanted to say it was Moose's fault.. but after seeing the replay, Jake threw a HORRIBLE pass. He has GOT to stop throwing behind and short to receivers. Most INTs have come from this very reason. Moose tries to reach back and grab it, but can't. Hits his fingers and bounces to the other guy.

The other situation was the toss to Smith in the endzone. If Smith doesn't knock the ball out of the DBs hands, it's an INT. Reason being, he threw it too short.

These were 2 instances where Jake did mess up...

The pass was behind Muhammed. Bad pass by Delhomme.

Good coordinators are suppose to know their players strengths and weaknesses and plays are designed for them.

Many commentators who played the game and know it, say Moose is being misued and I don't doubt them and are not suprised they feel that way.

I suspect Deangelo Williams could catch a ball or two also...if we had a game plan and a QB who could actually read the defense and get it to him.

Williams has like 100 receiving yards actually.

Is the age starting to show? Sure. I mean the guy is not as quick and dominant as he once was and thats ok. The problem is not Moose and his age but how we are using him.

If you sign Moose at his age and expect him to be your #2 reciever and run deep routes you are gonna be disappointed. If you utilize him for short routes and as a possession guy on 3rd downs you will be pleasantly suprised.

I have said it time and time again on this board, Moose should be our #3 guy and that is what the Panthers FO expected. The problem and the reason he has to be more = D. Jarrett bust. The Panthers expected this guy to be our #2 guy with Moose being a R. Proel possession guy.

Moose forced into a role that is tough for him now. We need to move on from Jarrett and get a playmaker at this position. Put Moose in a position to succeed

    • Was at the game and NYCFC honestly outplayed CLT the whole way.  Khalina and Zaha carried the team.  Zaha's wife on IG making it sound like he's gone come July. They're going to have to pay him or find a big time replacement because the team looks like pretty lost without him.
    • No one's saying LaMelo has no blame we're responding to you acting like he's the reason they lost. The scapegoating and blaming the teams woes on his personality is where it's like Cam Newton all over again. It was a failure on multiple fronts and primarily Lee's. Dude said ON AIR pregame that they had to protect the paint and if that was his gameplan going in he couldn't have botched it more. As the commentators said Ball's a rhythm guy and Orlando was preventing him for getting any kind of flow going. I'm a normie watching on TV and said they needed to bait them into fouling to combat that. They didn't even try until the 2nd half when it was too late. I think it's fair to expect the star to overcome whatever but LaMelo was not the problem in that game and he's not what is holding the team back. He's the only reason they're flirting with being a great team. I kinda put the center play on Lee too. Moose is great until he's up against a big who can body him. We've always known that and that's what Kalkbrenner is for. I don't know if it would have changed much but Kalkbrenner should have had more minutes than him.  And moving forward with the center position, I just think it's the time to trade Diabate while his stock's high and that's not an indictment of his game. He's like an evolved combination of Biyombo and PJ. He's a great rim protector and the strength issue is just what you're going to have to deal with if you want that. But Kalkbrenner is perfectly capable of protecting the rim and we gotta get away from the undersized centers or it'll always be a problem for us.
    • Honestly its why that Jalen Coker grab was a big deal.  I'd been warming up to the idea of a sadiq pick and was adamantly against a receiver...but this altered my train of thought.  I mean For instance, Cade Otton signed for 3 yr 30 mil contract...thats not dramatically different than the rookie payscale for #19 (4 year 20 mil with 5th year option), however you KNOW otton is decent...no clue if Sadiq will be anything.
