Cut him! He blocked @TheRed on twitter!

  • missed one XP
  • at least the only getting blocked is his twitter followers and not kicks.

Do you watch the Panthers? He's missed multiple XP's with us.

I don't use twitter. But in the midst of his meltdown last year this was common knowledge amongst fans.

He's one of the highest paid kickers in the league. If you think missing XP's is acceptable that's on you. If he misses one that costs us another win you'll be the first to grab a pitchfork.

I'm not arguing he should be cut right now, but it's all about perspective moving forward. Very few kickers in the league have been historically clutch consistently. Letting Butker walk when Gano has at most one more season with the Panthers was a shortsighted move.

Dude, I get it... you are butt hurt he blocked you on twitter (I wouldn't admit to it either). just so you know.... you are right about the multiple missed xp's. He missed two...... cut him. What a loser!

I will not be the first to grab a pitchfork.

Here is another little nugget of data for you

http://www.espn.com/nfl/statistics/team/_/stat/kicking/sort/fieldGoalPct

I think you need to go back to your hole of negativity - bc as of right now Gano is the most efficient kicker in the NFL.

Well we've found Graham Gano's huddle account.

I don't think that people realize Gano went through 7 different holders between the 2015 SB to the start of the 2016 season and he was just getting used to Lee last year. He had numerous nagging injuries all through 2016 including a broken bone in his plant foot which eventually required surgery this past off season.

2017 he is comfortable with his snapper, holder, and is completely healthy and the results show that. No kicker is perfect (although fans expect them to be) but he has done his job very well.

Keeping Gano over Butker was moronic.  Hopefully Gano continues to do what he gets paid too much to do.

this, hopefully gano keeps on killing it this year, if he does he will get a fat multi year check.... only thing is I'm not so sure we have the wiggle room to invest in a kicker. This decision could hurt us next year, but at this point who cares. I told myself when Hurney was hired that this is the final year of our window. 2 of the NFC's top 5 QB's are not going to be in the play-offs. Its all or nothing these next couple months.

Is that your deflection because you realized that you were incorrect?

You're laying on this whole being a Stan for Graham Gano shtick a little thick. He's been inconsistent at best throughout his career. Missing big kicks and XP's have been the theme. He did the same thing in Washington and they ran him out of town. He's basically a slightly more consistent version of Olindo Mare.

I'm sure Gano would be flattered that you're this enamored with him, but your obvious bias doesn't change the facts.

And to be 100% clear. I was a very staunch Gano defender his first few seasons here. He pissed that all away in the 2016 opener against Denver.

Dude, what are you operating off of? He had a bad year. The fact is the only miss he has this year is a 50+ yarder. He is our kicker and he is doing exactly what we asked for. Leads the league in touchbacks, and most efficient kicker in the NFL. What more do you want from him?

This is not a personal affection for the dude, this is me appreciating the fact he has done exactly what needs to this year. You should to.

Your ability to rationalize mediocrity is exceptional.

If he makes it through the rest of the season and whatever is next in the playoffs without missing any kicks, that will go along way in establishing something.

Even with that we would be foolish not to at the absolute least bring in a quality kicker for competition next year to see where we're at long term. Basically that's all I'm saying. Just because he isn't missing kicks left and right this year don't get complacent.

You're making it sound as if I'm saying he should be cut right this minute and sent straight to the guillotine. That's simply not the case. I'm looking at consistency for the future.

Could you name just 5 kickers in this league better than Gano right now?

My justification for mediocrity is a player that doesn’t perform. Period.  You are on a platform acting as if we have had to cycle through kickers. I think I can honestly admit that we are one of a few teams in the nfl that isn’t worried about their kicker.

Kicks beyond the halfway mark are no gimmes. I wouldn't say I "trust" any kicker beyond the 50. That being said,  Gano has played like a champ this year from any and all distances.

Yeah there's not too many out there banging them in from 67+ yards lol.

    • Then don't tune in. It's really not a hard concept to understand, if your making your decision based on your own personal needs/feelings as opposed to what is best for the future of the franchise, then it's a you problem, not a Panthers problem. When the season is already lost, every fan should be rooting for the same thing.  The team plays hard until the final whistle of the season and keeps improving as a team and individually, but in the end, we still come up short and lose games, and preferably because the other team beat us, not because we screwed up and found a way to lose due to our own fault. Look at it this way... If we are up 1 or 2 points with 3 seconds left in the game and the other team is lining up for a FG.  Beyond the joy of victory or the disappointment of defeat, what impact does the other team making or missing the FG have on our team the following season? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING Except where we draft and what teams we play due to our finish in the division. The players and coaches on the team would have the exact same level of improvement and learnings about themselves individually and as a team whether the FG is made or missed.  The ONLY difference in the end is the record in the standings and if the win or loss number changes. If you want to argue if making the playoffs to lose in the first round or just missing them is better or worse, that's totally fair and I can at least understand the other side of it.  But in what is already a lost season, if you're not hoping your team plays well but ends up losing, then you're cutting off your nose to spite your face.  You're hoping for a moment of happiness at the detriment of the franchise's future, and in turn, you're basically then happy for a moment to only set yourself up for future further disappointment.
    • If we’re eliminated I want the wins more.   The season is already a disappointment and if I’m not pulling for wins why bother to tune in?
    • Two things terribly wrong with this post. First is that not one time has myself or anyone else agreeing with me said that the team themselves should think that way or try and lose for positioning.  Never once have I suggested the team should purposefully lose games, ever.  I honestly can't understand why people keep saying this in posts, not one fan has ever said the players should or would purposefully try to lose. And second, is yes, that has happened and it's happened very recently.  The 2020 Bengals were 4-11-1 and then were playing in the SB the very next season.   And while it might have been 2 years later and they didn't quite get to the SB, the 2021 Lions were 3-13-1 and then the 2023 Lions were up 24-7 at halftime of the NFC Championship game. The season between those two? They finished 9-8 and only just missed the playoffs. Which is why I keep trying to compare us to the Lions in where we are at in our re-build.  Throw out Bryce's rookie year with the Reich staff who just didn't work out and he looked god awful.   This past season when we were 5-12 in Canales' 1st season is that 2021 season for the Lions and their 1st season under Campbell.  This year is their 2022 where they grew a ton and Campbell's culture building was clear, where I'm saying we'd likely be better off in the long run if we go 8-9 or 9-8 and just miss out on the playoffs (which is still a significant improvement from last year).  Then our 2026 is their 2024 when we have a chance to be a real contender after adding a few more pieces and our key players having another year of experience under their belts.
