Still made the wrong read, Bersin had a bigger cushion and was open lol what's the point of this video? That close to goal line... You see a corner playing off that far, QB and WR need to be on same page that he's gonna run his route a hair shorter to get open.... He had separation, Cam threw to wrong guy

The point is, Cam says funny poo during the game, and this one was caught on the audio.

And, Cam made the right read, he realized he had a mismatch.  A LB covering a WR is a matchup you take every play.   And the result, the LB had to grab Shep and get a free first down.

That was the nickle covering Sheppard, leaving single coverage on Bersin with a huge cushion. Not only did nickle have tight coverage, but it was forced to the Lb and was short of the marker anyway, and ultimately got Sheppard hurt..

You are right, it looks like a nickel.  Nevertheless, Cam would have had to throw a pinpoint throw with a corner and safety over the top.  Berson would have gotten destroyed, or the Safety could have picked it off.

Honestly, there were not many good options on this play.

Looks like we are running a three-man route with max protection with them only rushing 4.  Best option was probably for Cam to hold the ball for someone to leak out of the backfield.

He audible, they ran the same route. The read and throwing to whichever guy are two different things

Exactly! Haha yea, just from playing for years, We were always told if we have a cushion like that to make our cuts shorter and the QB would read it that way as well pre snap. Bersin took his route all the way to the corner probably because he just didn't know any better haha or maybe whatever cam audibles to is for the ball to go to Sheppard the whole time thinking the nickle would go to the flats or have his eye on CMC, that was just an ugly play I'm sure they wish they could have gotten back.

Edit... With Sheppard's suspect hands, personally I would have trusted Bersin to make the catch

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
