The...South Carolina Panthers?

I would have no problem with that. Fort Mill might as well be Charlotte these days, not much would change.

Exactly.  Center City Partners would fight it but they can stick it where the sun don’t shine.  Would be closer to the affluent 485 corridor in CLT than downtown, and MUCH cheaper.

Still don’t need now...but...

That's the first location that came to my mind too.

Right next to the interstate, and from what I remember it seems like there's a lot of space surrounding it that could be purchased and developed.

...for relatively cheap.

I can't imagine it succeeding, but this is the first I've heard that there was any such effort.

One thing to consider, though. Since it wouldn't really involve moving out of the market, and we might be talking about a difference of only 20-30 minutes in location, the NFL wouldn't necessarily oppose it.

If they didn’t oppose Santa Clara, they sure wouldn’t oppose this.

Living in that area, I can’t imagine how horrific traffic would be during gameday with how crowded this place already is.

Everyone would stay in Charlotte too for a super bowl so Charlotte gets all that money and south Carolina gets bent over and fuged paying for everything.  I like it

I wouldn't exactly say South Carolina gets "bent over" in this scenario. There are loads of economic benefits that come from having an NFL team.

6 people in South Carolina are Panthers fans and their biggest population center is roughly 135k(Charleston, SC for those that don't want to Google it).

I think this is the dumbest thing I have ever read on the Huddle.

It's actually not dumb at all.

The location they'd likely be looking at could be highly convenient (not at all far from the junction of 77 and 485) with unused space that could be developed cheaply.

You wouldn't be talking about a super long drive from Charlotte either, so it wouldn't be inconvenient for current ticket holders at all. Mind you, the notion that there are no Panther fans in South Carolina is completely wrong, but we're not talking about something that places an undue burden on existing fans either.

As far as the team, South Carolina has lower taxes, lower standard of living and is overall a cheaper place to be than Charlotte. That's why it's popular to live in places like Fort Mill and Rock Hill while working in Charlotte. The team could save loads of money in operating costs on an annual basis.

There's definitely some logic to it.

Still don't think it happens, but it's not so farfetched as you might think.
