  • Jstew : 198/680/3.4 ypc/ 6TD
  • Cmac : 111/421/3.8 ypc / 2TD

Receiving

  • Funchess : 61 receptions/792 yards/7TD
  • McCaffrey : 75 /611 /5TD
  • Benjamin : 32/475/2TD
  • Dickson: 28/415/1TD

  • Olsen: 16/181/1TD
  • Samuel : 15/115/0TD
  • D.Byrd: 10/105/2TD'

We arent going to have a 1000 yard rusher or receiver this season. Cam has a good shot to finish the season as the leading rusher for the team if Stew has another bad day in yards per carry once again in week 17. These are some depressing stats ladies and gentleman.

Its looking like CMC is going to finish something with like 450 rushing yards and 650 receiving yards (1100 total yards from scrimmage). ugh. That sounds like a pretty crappy total but look at our yfs leaders down below lol. Hes got way more than anyone else.

Current Total Yards From Scrimmage Leaders :

  1. Christian McCaffrey : 1,032  (7 total TDs)
  2. Devin Funchess : 792 (7 total TDs)
  3.  Jonathan Stewart : 732 (7 total TDs)

Is CMC our skill player MVP? (Non QB )

ugh?

for a rookie, that's pretty good. considering his clear growth as a runner later in the year and his role in this offense, there's no doubt he'll do better.

this really isn't a team based upon one individual star skill player. it's based on putting the pack on cam's shoulders and making him make magic out of poo.

The entire point of using an 8th overall pick on offense was to avoid this......

i mean it's helped for cam to finally have someone to throw it to as a checkdown and sure slot guy that won't suck, but we still don't have a sure fire wr1 to take the load off.

and honestly, there probably wouldn't have been another player at 8 we could've chosen that would've been better than mccaffrey in terms of helping this offense. all the wideouts are wr2s at best and not many other good skill players.

i like funchess personally, but i think he's more a wr2 than a wr1. we need to get someone for cam this offseason.

Funch is fine provided we have a legit home run speed threat. Unfortunately we have virtually no options thanks to poor decisions in the offseason.

Also, let's just dispense with the sugar coating. If we go past the first round in the postseason, it's going to be because someone other than Cam Newton stepped up. I'm looking at CMC and Stewart. We need our run game firing on all cylinders.

He's not really touching the ball much compared to what he should be...

We could avoid it with competent offensive coaching, however we don't have that...

Can't argue there, but we're limited at receiver depth now so that only further hampers the offense. This just makes the run game that much more critical. Our postseason hopes hinge around our ability to run the ball effectively. If we can't and Cam is having to throw the ball 30+ times, we're toast unless he can pull another horseshoe out of his ass.

If cmc gets Lead Back touches in the run and pass game we have a better chance. Like 15 to 20 carries

    • Option A:  Pay your starting QB starting QB money. Option B:  Look for a starting QB for 4-10 years (or longer) while wasting the talent at every other position.    How many of the top 20 QB's do you think are worth what they are being paid?   When you factor in the last year of his present deal his contract is really an average of 45 million per year which in today's QB market is a very, very good deal. I wish we'd had found a Brock Purdy to pay 50+ million a year right after we parted ways with Cam.  Ya'll go ahead and live in fairy tale land where good to great (much less elite) QB's are available to pay. Just the fact that they had the chance to pay Brock after the disaster of trading up for Lance is a testament that when you find a quarter back you can win with, complete in the playoffs and superbowls with, you pay him.
    • They will still be a playoff team but they aren't contenders anymore IMO. They won't be able to spend like they have when they went to a SB and proved he couldn't carry a win at that level with a really good team around him. Now he is going to have to do it with less to spend around him. They just locked in to being a playoff bound team that's going to be a known speed bump for whoever will represent the NFC in the SB.
    • Hmm. I think he'll live up to it. Last year, about half of his team was on IR it seems, at one time or another. Year before, Super Bowl appearance. Year before that, playoff run after being third on the depth chart and being pressed into service. Is he one of the greatest in the game right now? Nope. No chance of that. Is he in the top 10 going into next season? Pretty good chance of that.  Would 20 or more teams in this league love to have the guy as their starting QB. Most likely so. He's a good QB who can implement his coach's game plan to a T and has both the confidence of and confidence in his teammates. That'll take you a long way in this league if you've got the right cast around you, and he does.
