This Year's Coaching / GM Carousel

Subtitled: "Who might be looking at Steve Wilks"

This year's whirl might start with an unexpected name. Adam Schefter is reporting that Bruce Arians is "likely" to step down after the Cardinals finish the season.  That'd certainly be an attractive landing spot.

The opportunity we expected Wilks to get looks like it's not happening since the Giants announced they want an experienced head coach.

Word that the Lions might give Patriots DC Matt Patricia a look.  Makes sense since their GM is a former Patriots front office guy so they're probably not looking at Wilks either.

I'm of the opinion Wilks is a great positional coach, above average DC, but has definite HC qualities.  It's why he's been on short lists even before becoming a coordinator and if he interviews well, could very well land a gig.  I don't think Indy or NYG are fits but the Bengals are an interesting team.  If Marvin Lewis is involved in the FO, I think he could very well target Wilks.

Cleveland is in a weird spot (shocking, I know) because ownership wants to keep Jackson but GM John Dorsey doesn't.

I think all of the "in the air" jobs end up open except maybe Houston.

If that's the case, I would still say the Bengals could be his best fit.  He just seems like the type that I can see Cincy wanting to take the reigns to compete against Harbaugh and Tomlin squads.  Solid defense in place and could help change the perceived dirty culture but stay mean.
