Per NFL Combine breakdown

Overview

A fire hydrant run-stopper in the middle of the defense, he can collapse the pocket and aggravate quarterbacks, all while making life easier for his teammates on the line. He flashed skills as a freshman, and was a starter in the middle the past three seasons. Much was expected out of Taylor after earning a second-team All-Big Ten selection in 2007 (55 tackles, 8.5 for loss, 3.5 sacks), but his play noticeably dropped off as a senior (35 tackles, four tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks). Taylor's push up the middle is certain to intrigue teams looking for a plugger on the D-line, but his lack of improvement as a senior and struggles at the East-West Shrine Game put him in the middle or late portion of the second day in this draft.

Analysis

Positives: Prime NFL nose tackle candidate. ... Plays with good leverage, keeping his pad level low and square and getting his hands high and inside. ... Does not move much against double teams, holding his ground against the run. ... When fresh, he gets off the ball and pushes the center into the backfield to blow up inside runs. ... On occasion he can quickly knife through the A-gap to get pressure on the quarterback. ... Will chase downfield at times. ... Plays with a mean streak. ... Voted team captain in 2008.

Negatives: Short and not in great shape. ... Does not shed blocks when straight-up on his man, but makes plays when lined up on the shoulder of the center or guard. ... Better conditioning could help him get off the ball and collapse the pocket consistently. ... Doesn't get his hands up often enough to break up passes. ... Exposed a bit at the East-West Shrine Game for being a bit of a one-trick pony. ... Makes piles in short-yardage situations but does not stay on his feet consistently enough to stop the runner.

Maake's back up next season.

I hope Kemo can come back next season, but it is seriously doubtful. A man of that size with that type of injury has the odds already stacked against him.

I fear his career is over, and the sooner we realize it, and move on to pick up someone else, the better off we will be.

I'm sick and tired of us hanging onto "hope". That bitch ain't done poo here in forever.

It is my understanding the Steelers obtained Sunny Harris off the Panthers practice squad,thereby creating an opening and need that was filled by the signing of Terrance Taylor.

I was afraid this would happen. As soon as I heard that DE Aaron Smith had hurt his shoulder, and that the Steelers were putting him on IR, I knew they would Sign DT Ra'Shon Harris off the Panthers Practice Squad to replace him (the did draft him in the 6th round, and spend the summer making him into a 3-4 DE). I really hate to see the Panthers lose Harris, he would have been a big help next year, if the Panthers switch to a 3-4 defense.

Terrance Taylor (6-0 1/8, 306, 5.08-40, at the Combine) was the Colts 4th round draft pick (#136) this year, and never lived up to it. At Michigan he got by just by being big (around 317), but that was all he had, and in the NFL he lost that edge going against players his own size.

As you can tell, I'm not a fan of Taylor. I would have liked for the Panther to sign DT Antoine Holmes (6-2, 289, 4.83-40) from NC St., he was a rookie free agent with the Vikings this summer, and don't believe he is currently on anyone's Practice Squad. Holmes is a somewhat small DT, with a DE's speed for penetration, and like Harris could help next season if the Panthers were to switch to a 3-4 defense, or a great backup for all 4 D-line spots in a 4-3 defense.

The 49ers have a guy that is perfect for us on there PS Khalif Mitchell. I wanted to pick him up as a UDFA but he is still available. At the combine he put up 30 reps of 225 with 34.5" arms. He is 6'5 318 and has great on the field speed and strength. He can take up two blockers or get penetration he is a perfect fit for us. And to top it all off he wore 77 in college.

Khalif has 5" and 15lbs on Taylor. I think he plays stronger and is more athletic then Taylor. He also is not as one dimensonal as Taylor as he is good at absorbing blockers as well as getting penetration. But lets not get hasty I think we could really use two guys. I haven't seen too much gamefilm on Taylor (I have seen a lot more of Khalif) but what I have seen and heard is that he is good getting penetration he could be a future replacement for Lewis. Get them both and cut Hayden and Sutton

      Nobody is giving up a 4th rounder for a backup QB And anyone who needs a starter badly enough to where Bryce would then be their starter, is such a bad team that they're not giving up a pick likely to be about pick 105ish overall, instead of just dealing with a bad QB situation for a season and then drafting one in a loaded QB draft next year. I'm looking through all the teams right now and can't think of a single one that would be willing to part with anything better than a 6th rounder. Barring injuries (and excluding the Panthers), there look to be 10 teams who don't know with 100% certainty who their starting QB will be in 2027... Dolphins, Jets, Browns, Steelers, Vikings, Colts, Saints, Falcons, Cardinals, and Rams. Of those 10...  The Rams know it will be Stafford or Simpson.  The Saints more than likely will be sticking with Shough unless he takes a huge step backwards.  So neither are giving up any draft picks for Bryce right now, just wouldn't make sense for either. Down to 8 Given their current QB situation of having multiple QBs they already need to evaluate between this year, the Browns (Shedeur/Watson), Vikings (Kyler/JJ), Colts (Jones/Richardson/Leonard), and Falcons (Penix/Tua), wouldn't be giving up a 4th (or maybe any pick) to bring in another QB to muddy the waters even more. Down to 4 Dolphins just signed Willis and wouldn't want to bring in another small Alabama QB who has struggled after just dumping Tua instead of just rolling with Ewers as the backup.   That then leaves the Steelers, Cardinals, and Jets left as it's clear none of them have any idea who their 2027 could be as of right now.  But the Steelers would for sure rather just see what one of the 2 QB's they drafted in the last 2 drafts could become than give up a mid round pick for Bryce.  Same goes for the Cardinals in taking Beck this past weekend. The Jets would be the most likely team to even consider taking him on, but I think it seems very apparent right now given them rolling with Geno and now talk of bringing in Wilson to be his backup, they're punting on QB this year to draft someone next year, so why give up even a mid round pick for Bryce?

      Honestly I am not sure Pickett couldn’t step in for him. But I don’t see a clear easy upgrade and we are not KC with Alex Smith we are a team that hadn’t done poo for almost ten years and just made the playoffs. And looked good in the game. That stadium atmosphere on that day…. you know Tepper ate that poo up. Not one drink has been thrown in a while.  You had better make sure if you replaced him after that that you had a sure fire upgrade.

      Makes sense. If Bryce is ass this year, we are probably drafting our new QB next draft and sitting him behind Bryce for a year
