If you've got a kicker that only misses two field goals in a season, you'd be stupid to let him go. You pay the guy and then go and worry about other things.

Gano isn't a jag making peanuts. He's one of the highest paid at his position. Missing a chip shot in the playoffs on the road after showing he still struggles with XP's which has been an issue since he was with Washington should be enough to at the very least bring in some competition this offseason.

On kicks that are worth three points, he made 97% of them, and counting extra points he only cost us 9 points all year, all while being damn near automatic on touchbacks. That's pretty dang good!

Either way you cut it his deficiencies are only going to continue as he gets older. He can't still be missing XP's at this stage of his career and be considered "automatic". Basic due diligence dictates we should explore options for the future either this offseason or the next.

Honestly it baffles me that so many people make excuses for him when teams like even the Falcons have a kicker who is considerably older than Gano but has similar numbers except he doesn't miss chip shots. Raise the bar guys.

Honestly, there are so many other places where we need to raise the bar. This is just one of those areas where we may be good enough to stand pat and work on other things. One regular season FG miss (putting us 1st in the NFL for FG%) and three extra points misses, along with the highest touchback ratio in the league is pretty darned good. And really, that's all you need from a kicker.

The guy isn't going to break the bank, but losing him and taking a crap shoot approach to a replacement (no young kickers are ever a sure thing, and good free agent kickers are just no better than what we have), could just kill the next season if it all goes bad.

Re-sign him, treat him decent in the contract, and put the hard work into seeing if we can maybe score touchdowns more than field goals next year. That game we just played down in New Orleans showed that the kicking wasn't the problem -- having to resort to kicking, that was the problem.

It would have been nice for him to make a chip shot field goal like he's paid to do and then us be down by only 2 points on that final drive.

It also would have been nice for Clay to catch a touchdown that goes through his hands. fug both of them

He missed a field goal he had no business missing but made a field goal he had no business making. The outcome is the same regardless - except if he makes the 25-yarder and misses the 58-yarder instead, we go into half with no momentum.

If Cam Newton can be expected to carry a WR core full of practice squad players into the playoffs on top of having to lead the team in rushing, there's no reason to make excuses for Gano missing chip shots. It's crazy how people can rationalize mediocrity in one breath and then wonder aloud why we've yet to reach a milestone like back to back winning seasons. Welp...

Would have made sense to do it last year with Butker.

This year, he's ours for the long haul.

So Butker misses a kick that loses the Chiefs the playoff game. Graham Gano misses two field goals in 17 games and the Huddle has a meltdown.

Sometimes, logic defies this place. I feel like if a proposal was made that we could sign John Kasey as long as he only misses 10 field goals versus Graham Gano who only misses 1, you all would take missing 10.

Not if he kicks it out of bounds in the SB
