If you watch the final play...

Well a seasoned, smart veteran safety would have approached him from the sideline, allowed him to catch the ball and drive him towards the middle of the field with tackle.....There was plenty of room to do it. Diggs wasn't RIGHT on the sideline when he caught it.....Just bad defense. Drop 8, guard sidelines, and keep everything in front of you.....Seems simple right???....."That's why they play the game"

It's possible, but I don't think likely that they would have been able to keep him in bounds.  43 wasn't coming from the sidelines.  If you look at the momentum and direction that everyone was going, Diggs was going to be driven towards the edge of being out of bounds. So, It would have taken a VERY strong effort to keep him in bounds, and even then it would have been tough.  Especially when you consider he would have been fighting to get out of bounds, and he had a teammate not far that would have also helped.  Regardless, it's all speculation anyway, so we'll never really know.  And thankfully it doesn't matter since 43 screwed the pooch so badly.

I agree.....Just saying a better safety MAY have played it smarter...MAYBE. The key would have been timing the hit while he was in the air to catch ball. He couldn't have fought to get out of bounds then.....And yes, it's all hypothetical for sure....It's easy to say from my keyboard...lol

Man, that has to go down with like “the catch” as the most lucky bizarre play. What a great day for a no body underdog like Case Keenum.

so many people have dog piled him. When it was brought up that he might play in the Super Bowl people laughed and said never.

well 1 more hour of playing like that and wanting to win that badly and he does.

fug the Saints—- and the Heretic they rode in on.

What's funny is that both the Saints and Falcons were directly impacted by weird plays.  Just before halftime of the Falcons game, one of their DB's (don't remember which one) jumped to catch what should have been an easy interception, but the ball bounced off his knee into the hands of a Philly player who gained like 20 yards or so.  It allowed the Eagles to get close enough to kick a field goal going into the half.  Without that play, the Falcons would have only needed a FG to win the game instead of a TD.  Sometimes weird poo happens in football.

I think timing was the key.  43 got there a second too soon, and was obviously trying to avoid PI (bet he wishes he had that decision back now).  It is easy for us to second guess what a player does.  But these plays are bang, bang, so it's hard to imagine how much info the player had to process in such a short amount of time.

...you'll see that not only does Marcus Williams whiff on the tackle, but he also takes out the only other defender who was close (Ken Crawley).

Also, for anyone interested, the live reaction on the Saints board starts here.

Crawley is awful, I have no clue why we didn’t continue to attack him last week.

Yea, it takes skill and a little luck to win the superbowl. If we had've gotten a little luck against the Saints instead of them getting a little luck (IE us missing easy catches in the endzone) then we mightve won the superbowl this year.

This quote just reinforces how much of a douche-nozzle Cam Jordan is

Quote

Cameron Jordan, Saints defensive end: "We had them exactly where we wanted them. As a defensive end and player of my caliber, I should have been able to eradicate that play all together. ... Had I been a half-step faster, I would have been able to get off the tight end and tackle and completely take over that play."
