I can understand that.

There are definitely outside choices I wouldn't mind looking at for some spots. I'm pretty much okay with Washington though.

Whether you like it or not, Rivera has a philosophy about his defense.  Why bring in someone else when you have a Good Coach (in Washington) who has been on your staff for many years?  Someone who knows and understands your philosophy.   Knows the personnel on the team and has a better understanding of what is needed to improve the entire defense not only the DL.

There are some good candidates out there who are good DCs but they can't match the knowledge of the team that Washington can.

I will say this.  This time last year when McDermott left for Buffalo we were all excited about Wilks so I guess as they say.  Be careful what you ask for.

Good Luck Coach Washington

I agree. If you like Washington that’s fine, but why not at least interview another person, like Del Rio or something. If he wows you hire him and keep Washington at DL. (Not that I’m disappointed in Washington, I think he will do great)

Honestly, from what I've read, it sounds like this decision was made a long time ago.

Rivera has said before he always knew that Wilks would be a head coach, and he was getting interviews last year even when he was only a DB coach.

My guess would be that made them come up with a succession plan, one that probably amounted to choosing between Washington and Holcomb.  They chose Washington.

I think it's possible Holcomb didn't re-up his contract because he saw this coming; might have already had a commitment from Wilks.
