Offseason...

So we’re obviously not winning the NBA Championship and at BEST we’ll be a 6-8 seed in the playoffs.. To be honest, I watch about 1/3 of the games so I don’t have a great grip on what is expected after the season. What moves might/will be made in the offseason and what do you expect our roster to look like next year? To me, it’s frustrating being mediocre and having the 8-14 pick every year. We haven’t had a great draft history. What is it going to take to get us over the hump? It doesn’t seem like we’re in tank mode. Will we have any cap space to go after some big name FA’s if they even want to come here?

We dont have any money to go after anyone we are all tied up in the current roster. The only way to make some changes will be through trade. We just have to many bad contracts in MKG 13 million, Marvin 14 million, Zeller 14 million, and of course Batum 24 million. Kemba and Lamb are on their last years at 12 million for Kemba and 7 for Lamb. Dwight will come off the books after next year that frees up 24 but Kemba will be wanting in the 25 million range for a contract extension and Lamb will be looking for the 15 range so we will only be able to keep one of them. We are just in a bad spot as a franchise due to over paying our own guys because no free agents want to come to Charlotte. Its all been down hill free agent wise ever since Hayward got our offer matched by Utah a few years ago that was the only major free agent we have even sniffed at since then.

Well that’s depressing! Sounds like it’ll be the same ole, same ole next year then. Thanks Cho!

Could they not just give Dwight’s money to Kemba and Lamb?

Kemba is gonna want a max deal which will be more than dwights number coming off the books , Lamb is gonna be looking for a deal doubling his salary at least.

So more than 25?  I was going by the numbers in the post I quoted.

More like a 5 year 160-170m deal worth over 30m a season on average based on expected cap and the 30% rule and bird right increases of 8% a year.

So to figure it up, take the NBA salary cap at 30%, then multiply it 8% each season for 5 years. So 105m at 30%, is roughly 31m. From that we can estimate the rest of the deal and it comes out to 5 years and 180m dollars for a yearly average of 36m a season roughly.

So Kemba's next contract will be roughly 5 years and 180m dollars. Hence why I said the Hornets needed to trade him as they couldn't afford to keep him.

I have for a while tried to give Clifford the benefit of the doubt but he HAS to go.  Even if we keep Cho, whatever...Clifford's a quasi dinosaur in his thinking that won't even attempt to play Monk or Bacon.  He must be fired.  And no Silas can't be the answer.  Hire a real coach please.

That said, the lottery draft pick screams PG and I'd try some serious maneuvers to get Sexton.  Without winning the lottery Young is a pipedream but Sexton should be a target.  Sure we need other positions but gotta get another PG IMO.  If we can't get Sexton move down a little and get Duval.

    • Yes, but those guys aren't depth guard signings, they're likely going to wait and see who has injuries or players under performing and then sign there. I also think that if Ickey really is going to be able to play at some point this year, that's where our guard depth comes from.  As if he gets to the point of being active, we'd then have 3 LT's on the roster with him, Freeling, and Walker, gotta think one of them not named Freeling gets kicked inside if needed.
    • lol imagine being Hill and this is what your coach thinks about you replacing a guy giving up over 4 goals per game.
    • I don't think Tyreek is a bad player to play with on the field, for sure not in the same way that Diggs is, as he's a cancer on the field with how he acts, and wouldn't take kindly to being 2nd fiddle behind T-Mac. It's that Tyreek is just a terrible person who realistically shouldn't even be in the NFL, his insane athletic ability is why his off field transgressions have been overlooked.  If he was a WR3, no team would have kept him around, it was only that he was a 1st ballot HOF level talent that kept him around. Just zero interest in having a person like that around our young WRs, that's really all it comes down to for me with him. Again, if we were true contenders this year, that changes things and I'd rather bring in the best possible players and hope it works out.  But they're trying to build something here and to do that, you need high quality people, not just great talent.
