I'm hoping we hear Ed DeBartolo Jr's name comes into play. He helped 49ers win their championships. I heard right when Richardson wanted to sell team he was interested. I think he would be the best choice by far. I want a winner and will spend money and quit being cheap.

I read a lot on here about JR and the Panthers organization being "cheap". There is a salary cap last I heard. It is the same for all teams. What exactly are you talking about?

No thanks we already have a cheap owner don't want another cheap one .

Again ....we have a salary cap. How are JR, the Panthers, or any owner cheap? Can no one answer the question?  A team, managed properly, can not risk spending the entire cap prior to the season starting.

The owners have to write the signing bonus and Jerry tried to get tax payers $$ for stadium upgrades . Pretty cheap don't you say ?

Does either one prevent us from following a winning team. It is a business. As far as I know all owners have plied the local taxpayers for funding of any new stadium. Signing bonuses would be part of the GMs job. But again there a limits

...and how do you know he’s the “leading candidate”?

He's been reported to be by NFL Network reporters, among others.

He's already in the NFL club as a part owner of the Steelers (basically following the same path Haslam did). The league is said to favor him, and they have final approval on the sale.

Other than his initial comment saying he was interested, I haven't seen much if any mention of DeBartolo since.

Now, if he signed a confidentiality agreement, that might be expected. But everybody else would have signed one too and we're still hearing their names.

Pretty much every reporter and analyst talking about the sale right now is saying it's between Tepper and Navarro. The Fertitta brothers were said to be in the mix but apparently dropped out.

Anything can happen of course, but barring something unforeseen, I expect it to be Tepper.

Whatever it takes to win I'm on board with.

Players with characters concerns

Stadiums with rave like atmospheres

Whatever

The more change the better I say.

Players with character concerns are where I kind of hesitate, and not necessarily for strictly moral reasons.

Anybody who's assaulted a woman, committed domestic violence or anything like that, absolutely I object to for moral reasons. Guys with other issues? It's more practical.

A lot of teams have found themselves burned because they put themselves in the position of relying on someone who had already given them evidence that he was unreliable. In a couple of cases, that contributed to teams losing Super Bowls.

Obviously, that's a case-by-case thing. As a whole though, I'm wary.

I doubt its the bidders signing confidentiality agreemwnts for the owner.

It would be those who work for and around the bidders who sign them. The lawyers and accountants and consultants the bidders hire working on the bid process would be required by the bidders to keep quiet during the process. We know the team is for sale as the owner indicated this to the public.

Well technically, none of these guys are necessarily handling their own business.  It's all done through the lawyers.

How extensive those agreements are, and what the consequences are for breaking them, who knows?

No. That’s frugal. Stupid(ish) that Charlotte paid. And how is paying signing bonuses cheap?

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
