Mayock's Day 2 comments

OJB was a guy after the season that went from 3rd to early/mid 1st after workouts. Chark has been impressive after getting away from the disaster that is LSU QBs. Maybe he's not too bad. Bring him in and vet the hell out of him. He isn't OJB in terms oof his film (too much body catching), but it's coachable, correctable, and who knows he may be working on that after the bowl game......

He is anything but another Funchess. Funfun wishes he had Charks wheels.

Landry also went way higher after workouts. Some schools are hard as hell to judge guys off college production.

This right here could be a very telling tale for us.  If we work him out and I think we will.  If he flies during our workout and Turner sees potential.  I would not be shocked.

This is a very good assessment he's falling into the mold of those two with the big jump up after the combine workouts.

Then he'll be a late day one or early day two project.

People bitch about speed.  The guy came prepared to show off his talents.   You can nickel and dime his catches all you want.  I would rather have a guy who can catch the ball with his chest than a guy would drops balls with his hand.   This isn't saying he can't or won't ever change.  But if you are looking for a guy to stretch the field and CATCH the ball.  He is as good as any.  Many tout Kirk but from what I have read he hasn't faced much press coverage.

Choose your poison.  I don't think there is one player on this board that is 100% ready to step in and play.

Recently LSU has produced some pretty decent WRs.  Landry and OBJ to name a few.

l am not pushing to draft him in the 1st round but I wouldn't freak out if we did or round 2.

This is what we need, we need to realize it's always going to be risk his rewards fit this team to a T a perfect marriage if we don't get a speedy vet. Makes so much sense a elite speed athlete with the chance to rejuvenate Cams deep ball especially with Norvs vertical offense game plan.

I remember the opposite like you. Never heard 3rd and Landry seemed to drop a little after the 4.77.

Prior to the start of the 2013 season OBJ was a 2nd or 3rd if he came out. As the season progressed solidly in the 2nd as he had a good year. After the season but pre combin it was laaaate 1st early second at worst. Blew it up at the combine and almost everyone said 1st round lock.

Chark didn't have the breakout either Landry or OBJ had. Also had an awful QB and not Mettenberger who was at least competent for an NCAA QB.

Chark is much bigger and stronger than OBJ, also older coming out. I think he is a solid day 2/3 guy ATM without a team workout. The progression he showed was good. Undeniable athlete. Showed out in the senior bowl too.

Bring him in for a workout and see how where he is now with the body catching and route tree. His interviews and team workouts will make or break him now.

    • I'm super excited about the guys we're getting back, and fortunately this year, outside of Robert Hunt, we haven't had any season-threatening injuries. Rico has earned the start, but I am excited to have both available.  The team is finally turning into the run-first team Canales said he wanted to be. As for JT Sanders, I think he has lost the most be being out. He is probably our best receiving TE, but with the emergence of Mitchell Evans & with him and Tommy Tremble both absolutely balling in run blocking, it will be hard to fix something that isn't broken. I'm hoping Turk Wharton can help with our pass rush. We really havent gotten to see him much due to injuries, but we desperately need anyone to provide some pass rush juice, which is what he was brought to do. I'm the most excited about Jalen Coker returning. Theilen may have been the most clutch last year, but I've watched a lot of film, and Coker was the most consistent WR we had when he was out there last year.  I think he can be an ideal #2 to Tmac. While Coker doesn't have the raw athleticism XL does, his route running, savvy, and overall football IQ simply make him better.  I think with the fact Coker can play both outside and in the slot will give our pass game more versatility.  We have been running a lot of 2 TE sets, and I think Tmac & Coker should be the primary WRs for 12 personnel. The other WRs (XL, Tremayne, Renfrow, & Horn) all have roles, but I dont think any of them can fully replace what Coker can do. I do think Renfrow will be inactive this week if everyone is healthy bc of how valuable Tremayne is for ST and as a run blocker. So happy that we are playing meaningful football heading into November. We are still almost certainly a year away, but we are absolutely moving in the right direction
