Schefter calling for changes in Carolina

Let's just face the facts:

1. we are stuck with Fox/Hurney/Peppers/Delhomme at least through this year.

2. there will be no trades in season, as to do so would be to admit that the season is over. This is a coach who played his starters against New Orleans scrubs year before last, in the last game of the year to win one more game. Does anyone really think he would trade his 'star' player at game 6?

3. as long as John Fox is coach, a QB will not be drafted. Understanding Brady is the exception, its hard to find quality QBs in the 4th round anymore.

It sure would have been nice to have traded for Cutler and we would not be talking about drafting a QB. Cutler seems to have settled down in Chicago. oh wait, we have Jake....yeah, that's it...we have Jake...Cutler to Smith, in flight, would be a great sight to see.

It will be very interesting to see, if the Panthers go the likely, 5-11 low to optimistic, 7-9, what Jerry Richardson will do.

Quinn BLOWS!

And I have been thinking about this a bit. I don't want to trade Pep UNLESS we are getting a new coach in here. Can anyone possibly imagine how bad our defense would be WITH John Fox and WITHOUT Julius Peppers?

So if we are going to trade arguably our most talented defender then I want a coach that is going to use the draft pick we obtain to get a QB.

So...if we trade Peppers I want to turn the page on this Panthers team and start over with a new coach and a QB that can take over sooner than later. If Richardson isn't willing to fire Fox then what the hell is the use in trading Julius Peppers?

The ONLY THING I want for this team is a new QB that can win games for us instead of "not losing" games. That seems to be an important factor with most good NFL teams...

Actually, I would like to keep Pep if we get a new coach, maybe the new coach can get more out of Peppers.

id be all for both those deals. Quinn is low risk high reward type deal. worst case scenario we have a backup that's better than any of our current backups. and peppers is gone after this season anyways so might as well get something for him why we can

We should at least let our next coach decide who he wants for a QB...

Fwiw, if we trade Peppers now, that is basically giving up on this season. Expensive or not, he is our best pass rusher. Brown and Charles aren't the players Peppers is.

I don't have a problem with trading him, but lets wait till the season is over.

He's an unrestricted free agent when the season is over, unless we franchise him again (or he signs a new contract, which he isn't going to do).

    • DeAngelo Williams: 1515 yards (2008) Steven Davis: 1444 yards (2003) Christian McCaffrey: 1387 yards (2019) Chuba Hubbard: 1195 yards (2024) Jonathan Stewart: 1133 yards (2009)   DeAngelo Williams 1515 yards in 2008 are most in Panthers history for a season this was when Double Trouble was at it's height. That year he averaged 94 yards a game. Steven Davis missed 2 games 2003 so he comes in at the most yards per game in a season at 103 yards. Mccaffrey averaged 86 yards a game in his 2019 campaign he also recorded 1005 yards receiving making his season statistically the best in Panthers history for a RB, had the Panthers had a better record he could have been a favorite for MVP. Dowdle currently is averaging 81 yards a game despite only starting 3 games thus far. In the games he has started 206, 183, 130 he's averaging 173 yards. In Green Bay he rushed for 130 despite having a 21 yard run wiped out due to illegal procedure penalty that could of saw a 150 yard day.    Top 5 yards per carry. Dowdle 5:6 (2025) Williams: 5.5 (2008) Stewart: 5.1 (2009) Mccaffrey: 4.8 (2019) Hubbard: 4.7 (2024) If Dowdle continues even close to the pace he's on he's poised to break DeAngelo Williams single season Panther rushing record.
    • The BY9 situation is classic sunk cost fallacy. We traded premium assets to get him. Every few games he flashes the traits that made him appealing (quick reads, touch, composure) but the macro picture doesnt lie. Hes producing at a bottom-tier level across efficiency metrics in yards per attempt, EPA/play, completion percentage over expected, and explosive plays. Instead of objectively reassessing, the organization continues to justify the investment - new coaches, new systems, new excuses - trying to salvage what was invested. Giving him a 5th year is a self inflicted would.  We need to take our lumps and move on
