soon to sign WR Jarius Wright to play slot

lol at the people who think this is a camp body and that just because he's not a hot name that everyone knows that it's a stupid signing.

Look, we were bad last year because we lacked basically 2 things.  A healthy option to take the top off the defense and receivers that can actually catch the football and move the chains.  Look back at the 2015 team.  Ginn = T Smith and Cotchery = Wright.  These aren't sexy picks, nor complete players, but the strengths of Wright and Smith should compliment each other well enough to form a legit second starter.

This is the typical “coach in the locker room” signing of former players where no comp oicks are associated

This is not a coach in the locker room.

This is the pairing of two complimentary players to become a functional second receiver.

Clutch hands like Bersin, but has the speed to do something with the ball after the catch.

Free agency is about improving the bottom of the roster too, not just the top.

Big facts rather have him catching the passes then Shep and Clay letting slide through thier mitts. But honestly I see him as a upgrade over Russel but he'll probably get PT knowing the system gives him a leg up, also this speaks to our confidence in Samuels I thought he was our explosive slot wr. Maybe he will be but it seems Norv has the pieces he wants Smith/Wright/Fun should be able to get down the field and make plays. With Olsen & CMC underneath causing trouble.

Yeah and you pay a guy that wasn't healthy last year and out 8 games. It makes so much sense now lol.

Do you guys see you are comparing him to Clay and Bersin?

He looks good compared to players that shouldn't be on a roster.  But that doesn't mean he should be a starter (which he will be here).

Hurney has signed two FA WR and both are meh.

This is no different than any other year.  We sign cast offs and hope they become good here.

It never works.

Think of it this way... Samuel was extremely raw when we drafted him and then he destroyed his ankle, which he'll have to come back from before he can even think about getting better.

Ya, we just went to a super bowl with comparable players.  Here, I'll break it down.

Normally you'd love to have a well rounded guy that can be both a field stretcher and possession receiver, but those guys are hard to find and EXPENSIVE.

What do value teams do?  Sign a possession receiver and sign a deep threat.  Use them appropriately and that sort of forms what you were looking for originally.  It does give away what you're offensive plan is a bit more, but think of this as a early down RB (Smith) and a 3rd down back (Wright).

We aren't expecting Smith or Wright to be anything different than what they are.

Former #Vikings WR Jarius Wright is signing with the #Panthers, source said, on a 2-year deal. He gets a $2M signing bonus and the first year is worth up to $3.5M with incentives. ... Didn’t take long to find a home.
