Most analysts say it's down to Tepper vs Navarro, which is pretty much what we've long been expecting.  A lot of us early on thought Tepper would just outbid everybody, but that hasn't been the case.

Who you should root for is a matter of choice. I'd honestly be fine with either one.  There are differences I could see in what they might do, but it's all really just speculation.

On that front, I'd say if you want things done the Steeler Way by a guy with Northern sensibilities and a Miami address, you probably want Tepper.  If it means a lot that the owner is tied to the Carolinas and you want someone who'll run the team like a Southerner, then Navarro is your guy.

I know Katie Peralta recently said Tepper not being from here and not likely to live here even if he does buy the team shouldn't be a big deal, but I have a feeling for a lot of people it will.

Likewise, David Newton saying that Ben Navarro is a lot like Jerry Richardson probably throws some folks off, but that doesn't necessarily mean he'd make the same mistakes.

Either way, there's general agreement we'll know who the new owner is within the next few weeks.

Respectfully disagree about Navarro.  He's not like Richardson.  Navarro is originally from up North. He's relatively young for an owner.  As I mentioned to you before, the guy grew up a Giants fan.  Don't be fooled by Navarro just because he lives in SC.  People from all over live in Charleston.  While I'm not a fan of SC politics....SC is incredibly business friendly and it's lured a lot of companies in from all over the country.

The part about Navarro being a lot like Richardson comes primarily from David Newton.  He's speaking primarily about him having a laid back personality and wanting a family atmosphere.  Mind you, that doesn't necessarily mean the same thing to Navarro as it does to Richardson.

Others have mentioned him being a Giants fan.  Makes me wonder if our old buddy Ernie Accorsi is up for some consultant work again.

Interesting...

This tells me two things:

First, Navarro likely doesn't have a lot of respect or doesn't trust Sabates.  It would be one thing to turn him down, but to not even respond shows a certain level of disregard.

Second, and most importantly, Navarro likely has his financing settled.  If there was any question about him getting enough financing without breaking the bank, he'd probably have at least listened to a group that, while not having the means to buy the team themselves, still has fairly deep pockets that could help ease the burden of his paying for the team.

Navarro obviously doesn't have the wealth that Tepper does, but I'm also of the belief that if he needs financing to complete his current bid, he's got it.

The poster we had on here who's friend works for Navarro indicated that he's been about nothing but this deal for a while. That would likely mean that he's got his i's dotted and his t's crossed.

My only question on that front would be what if the bidding goes higher.

That doesn't really seem likely to happen at this point, but it's definitely possible.

Agree.  And since Navarro doesn't have Tepper's bank account, I'm sure he has at least one or two investors to help with the bid.  We have heard that James Goodnight had interest, but his name hasn't popped up as one of the primary bidders, I wonder if he's not a minority investor.  While they are not local to each other, they are both tied to the Carolina's and would likely have a vested interest in keeping the team's roots here (I don't think anyone is moving the team, I'm talking culturally).  Especially if Goodnight wants a part of the team, but not have the responsibility of running the day to day operations.

Nothing to base this on, but with Goodnight's deep pockets, I could see Navarro reaching out to him to discuss a partnership.

Navarro and Goodnight partnering up is certainly an intriguing idea, and one that would give Navarro the ability to outbid Tepper if needed.

To be more like Jerry World, or the 5 billion dollar stadium they're building in Los Angeles.  We certainly wouldn't spend what they're spending but something a little more like what the newest stadiums have would be a consideration.  Parking that they can make a profit from would also be a plus as far as revenue.

Yes, to our eyes the stadium is probably fine as it is, but we don't see with billionaire NFL owner eyes.

I'd say the chances of a new stadium are greater with Tepper.

Then I want Navarro.

Navarro and Tepper need to go in together. One Guy buys the team. The other guy buys all the spaces withing 2 blocks from the stadium, bulldozes some places, build huge parking decks and lots. Uses the money paid to park, to pay back investment. Win Win
