Voth on DB coach options

Since I can't speak for Curtis, I can't shed much light on what that was about.

What I can tell you is in the short-term, the room will be led by assistants Jeff Imamura and Richard Rogers. From there, Ron Rivera has some options. He could let both continue sharing responsibilities or promote one into the lead role.

Or Rivera could look outside the building.

Perhaps he'll consider calling Hall of Famer Rod Woodson, who helped coach the Raiders secondary the past three seasons. Or maybe Rivera could talk defensive-minded former head coaches Chuck Pagano or Steve Spagnuolo into coming to Carolina. They may not be up for taking a job like defensive backs coach, but it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Other available options include Ray Horton, Dennis Thurman and Chris Harris.

Pagano and Spagnuolo are the only ones I know of with any actual Rivera connection.  Rivera and Spagnuolo were colleagues when Rivera was with the Eagles. Rivera and Pagano haven't worked together directly that I know of, but Rivera and Pagano's brother John were on staff together in San Diego.

I'd definitely prefer one of the outside options, and there are some darn good choices available.

my heart says richard rodgers has paid his due and should be given a shot but my mind really wants Chuck Pagano.

Richard Rogers is a moron and the only reason he's here is due to Ron.   No thanks.  I'll cast my vote for an outside candidate thank you.

I'd normally expect Rivera to simply promote from within, but since Voth gave credence to outside options, I'm paying more attention.

It's possible Rivera might not want to promote either Rodgers or Imamura over the other, so an outside candidate could be the best option.

Well he took off all of last year from coaching right? He acted as a consultant instead.

Pagano was fired this past December.

The Colts went through the whole harangue with Josh McDaniels after that before finally hiring Frank Reich instead.

You might be thinking of somebody else.

Truth be told, I think I just forgot he was coaching because the Colts were so forgettable last year, haha. I at least thought he didn't make it through the season, but hey, here is hoping he has the itch to get back on the field with a fresh group of guys (he also has a previous coach-player tie to Mike Adams, so he would have a veteran to help implement his coaching).

The Colts were never really good again after they lost Bruce Arians.

Pagano reportedly wants to be a head coach again so I guess the question is whether he would settle for something less in the meantime.
