this isnt a “my rich man is more virtuous than yours” contest!

I want this guy coming in here and puting serious pressure on people to be THE BEST.

nice guys finish last, at least in buisness, and thats how a FRANCHISE SHOULD BE RUN

Because smart qualified people can get good jobs anywhere. If you are a jerk to them they  wont work for you and you will need to pay less talented people to work for you.  If you are frugal and a jerk and you are not willing to pay top salaries you won't get the best employees. They aren't going to put up with that.

You can be highly demanding without being a jerk and when people respect their boss they will jump through brick walls for them. Not if they are an ass.

The stadium thing shouldn't be a shock to anyone.  Its great today but in 3-4 years will need 100m (which I am confident won't be a problem as the city is already ready with another "tether") and in 10 years it will need potentially 200-400m for a complete overhaul.  He is an investor and he bought a 25 year old property.  Its fair to expect that to be a concern down the road.  The good news is we are a good market and a good city to re invest in so when the time comes fans and the city will need to pony up a little.  What I want to remember is Tepper got a deal on the team so he needs to pony up also.

The only way his abrasiveness towards employees affects anyone on the Huddle is that I feel bad for guys like Bill Voth or Mike Kraft or Mick Mixon that may be fired or have to deal with that on a daily basis, but there are millions of people out there that have to deal with uncertainty at work or a mean boss. And honestly, the people that will have to deal with Tepper on a daily basis are likely to be people we've never heard of so I can't care about their feelings too much.

That, plus in another interview LaCanfora said Tepper didn't like the stadium's potential for "generating revenue".

That's a red flag.

The stadium was reportedly a big reason why he refused to make a higher bid.

It'll be interesting to see if he demands the government pay 100% for a new one in a couple years. If so, probably not gonna stay. If he goes in 50-50, I like the odds.

I'm sure he'll start with some stadium upgrades, but they're going to be pretty short term and we're about 5 years away from starting the process of getting a new stadium.

Here's what's concerned me for a while: just where is this new stadium going to go? 277 is so tightly wound around uptown that it limits options. Is there some obvious site that I'm missing? I remember reading about a possible site near Carowinds, that sounds like it may have been the South Carolina option that Rapoport tweeted that another possible owner wanted. If so, we can probably shut the door on Carowinds.

This is not surprising.  I fully expected that a new stadium to be part of the negotiations and ultimately part of the deal.   I'm going to bank on a new stadium being built somewhere near Charlotte in the next 5 years.  Who foots the bill is up for debate but you can bet your ass one will be built.

Rothacker reported that Charlotte has already budgeted some funds for stadium upgrades, but they won't be available for about four years.

That might be a source of contention.

On that front though, Gantt is slamming Charlotte leaders as already acting like whipped puppies toward Tepper.

No chance in hell does he go in 50/50. Paul Allen has $20 billion and he would only agree to pay for 30% of the cost of a new stadium plus cost overruns in Seattle and that was 20 years ago.

How much would a new stadium cost? How much revenue does does it take in a year compared to the current?  I'm sure he knows exactly but any guesses? How long would it take to break even?

To elaborate on this. Here are some numbers and rankings that help to explain the stadium dynamic.

I'm sure buying a team in Charlotte was part of the appeal for Tepper. I've said all along that there isn't a set of city leaders in this country more inclined to bend over backwards for a new owner than ours. Vi Lyles and Charlotte City Partners will give Tepper whatever he wants and more.
