I'm sure being an equipment manager is harder than I would think but is that the most cush job of all time?

Not when you have to move a load of pads and training equipment from Charlotte to Spartanburg.

Honestly, even making sure a big load of pads, extra cleats and whatever else makes it to an away game in who knows where is likely no picnic.

I’ve got nothing but love for him. He got this ball signed for my son via an ex-Panther buddy.

I can't recall anyone ever saying a bad thing about Jackie Miles.

That said, I'd guess his "retirement" probably did have to do with the change of ownership. Otherwise, I can't imagine he'd come out of retirement a month later when a job opened up.

I’m sure the retirement did have to do with JR leaving. Sometimes when your career is close to done you’d rather not deal with all of the changes and not being comfortable. Gettleman probably have him a chance to know he wouldn’t have to deal with anything.

I had a guy tell me he believes Brandon Beane will be taking on a bunch of former Panthers staffers at some point, maybe not that far away.

I suppose if that happens, it it makes sense for Dave Gettleman to hire some of them as well.

Isn't he also the guy they'd send to the draft to turn in our selections?

Yes. He's done it since the beginning.

Next year will be the first time someone else will be turning in our pick.

I asked Bill Voth about Jackie after the draft and he said he had "retired." i.e. nothing to do with the sale or JR leaving or anything like that. though I imagine any of us who had been in a position of 20+ years and all of a sudden the senior leadership is changing and everything is up in the air, we'd start to consider our options. doesn't mean it has anything to do with the actual strengths or weaknesses of the organization.

also IIRC he is from the northeast originally so it could just be a natural fit for him.

A retirement that lasts 30 days?

If you only stay retired until there's a job opening somewhere else, I don't call that a true retirement.

I definitely think Miles "retired" because of the regime change. At the time, he probably didn't believe another job was going to come available anytime soon. One did unexpectedly, and here we are.
