McCaffrey doubters

We had a contingent of people last year who were fairly negative about the McCaffrey pick, and likewise about his ability to be a feature back in the NFL.

McCaffrey has certainly looked good this preseason. He's been used a lot, and the general expectation is that Norv Turner understands how to do that where our previous OC didn't.

Of course, as anybody who's watched football for a while knows, preseason can be deceiving.

So my question would be who among our number still doubts or questions that McCaffrey will be an effective running back this year. If so, why?

I'd also like to hear from anyone who was a doubter or a critic last year but is on board with the hype train now. What changed your mind?

It's preseason. He was awesome last year in preseason too. It's basically flag football. Relax.

The Kamara comparison got brought up pretty frequently.

As if Kamara was predicted to have a historic rookie season prior to the draft. I mean everyone knew that... which is why he went in the third round.

Size and durability we're pretty commonly cited reasons for doubt.

I'm still not sure he can constantly pound the rock without getting hurt. He just does not have  the body type for it. Even the bell cows who do have the body type get hurt quickly in the NFL. RB life is not very long in this league.

It will be very interesting to see if they try him in that role. Plus remember he will be taking hits  over the middle from slot  pass catching.

Those are a lot of hits to take if he's just gonna be solo like preseason.

Good news he does have a 7.0 avg in preseason which is the best in the  NFL and the oline has been opening holes which he needs.

I liked him as a RB but never felt he would do the same type of damage that Stew could in short yardage pile situations. It’s not hard to imagine why, stew could hit a pile and make it move forward. McCaffery would hit the same pile and bounce off it, usually onto his ass.

Its not a dig at McCaffery and thought he would still be huge for us and still think he will be. Little less worried about his pile moving ability because we don’t have an OC who will try to make him push it.

I also thought that’s why why have CJ here now, so we wouldn’t have to rely on cmc in pile moving situations.

McCaffrey would be perfect with the right coordinator and as predicted, Shula didn't know what to do. It's like tits in your face at a strip club and being like i don't know what to do with these. I still don't think running him up the middle constantly is going to work, we have CJ for that, but we'll see. There will be more ways defenses can scheme to shut him down once the season starts. Cam just needs to continue to find him out of the backfield instead of running and plopping on his head.

Cam  is comically dumb sometimes. It’s preseason he has cmc wide open but he chooses to run and do a gymnastics flip

MOOOOOOOOOOSE!

sorry, I grew up a Dallas fan (there are currently 28 teams that I like better than them) Sorry, I was young and didn't know any better. I welcome any emoji turds that you see fit to react with, but Moose was a beast!

I agree with everything you said.
