DJ Moore blocking

To be honest, Cam didn't trust Moore to make that block as he was going into his slide 5 yards ahead of time not thinking DJ would put #30 on his back.

And Moore didn't even get a "thank you" series on the field for that block. Just like CJ Anderson never saw the field again after his TD.

When guys show up to play and do something well, give 'em a few more reps.

Good news is, that will show on film. They will see it. I'm still optimistic that the coaching staff can recognize that.

I also was looking at snap count the other day, and CJ was only in on 4% of snaps. I think you should run at least 10% of our plays with both CJ and CMC in there. He should be getting at least 5 carries a game. I don't like CMC getting 30 touches.

Anyone can see that in the second clip Torrey was meant to rub the first tackler and block the second. I like Cian but just that’s poo stirring for ignorant fans to bite on.

I wondered that and impossible to know without knowing the play, but it seems like the first guy is just a chip to give CMC room to make the catch then CMC is supposed to make him miss then Torrey blocks the second level so it can turn into a big gain if CMC gets past the first guy. I'd love to see Torrey on the bench permanently but not sure that one is on him.

Not sure I love the play design but I see the boom or bust potential. If CMC makes the first guy miss and Thomas and Torrey execute their blocks, CMC has a TD.

That play was intended to get a 1st down and run the clock. Cam got the first and slid because he wanted to go down in bounds to keep the clock running. He didn't care about extra yardage, block or no block. But DJ sure did lay him out!!

And ill just leave this here of Smith from last week

The numbers aren't there for the screen. Smith is supposed to chip and then move up to the next defender which he does. It is CMC's responsibility to make the first guy miss; if he does that, the next level is blocked and he is sprung for a big gain.

Surprised the person who tweeted this wasn't aware of that concept.

I get that wasnt his man and its a chip then to block the other guy

Only problem, that "chip" was dam near a swim move around the guy barely putting a hand on him.

A chip is to knock the guy off slightly so CMC can make the move on the guy.

By the time CMC catches the ball, turns around.  The guy is already in his face.

This chip is about equivalent to those terrible "chips" we complained about Tobert before he left

The implication of the tweet was the Smith completely forgot to block someone. That wasn't the case.

I'd add that I think preseason caused some of us to set our expectations for Ian Thomas a little too high.

You can't expect a fourth-round rookie to come in and immediately be what it took Greg Olsen years to become.

I believe Thomas will get there, but give him time to do so.

This board just wants to assume that all of our draft picks this past year are hall of famers.

    • Facts it's still crazy that they made him sell over that especially considering what some of the other owners have done.  JR was a rich 80 year old white man from the south I'm not at all surprised about him making some "inappropriate" comments about what a woman is wearing water is wet what a surprise. That's just the way things were done during his time, and he should and did get punished for his actions by paying some hefty fines, but it definitely wasn't something that he should've been forced to sell his team over.  I'll never forget him insulting Peyton Manning during a negotiation, reportedly belittling the quarterback’s knowledge of player safety and asking, “Do I need to help you read a revenue chart, son?
    • Like many of the old heads, I’ve been here for a long time.  I got a lot of respect for everyone on this board for your dedication to this team.  We’ve all been through it during the tougher years. At this point in life, I’m not one to judge anyone’s level of dedication, or their reasons why anymore.  Time, and a lot of bad football, will do that.  For me, it’s simple.  We share a common bond.  For that, I love and appreciate all of you crazy SOB’s. For me, last season was at a minimum, entertaining.  BY lead a young team to multiple come from behind 4th qtr wins.  That showed me heart, and that he has the clutch gene.  That’s the wildcard intangible.  For me, that was fun to watch even  if it was mindbogglingly frustrating at times.  Over the past two seasons, we have progressively built a better team around him.  On paper, the defense should be better this season.  That’ll help.  Let’s see what he can do as the other guys continue to develop too.  Besides, his contract is cheap for a few more years, and we just made some smart cap decisions during the draft. Let’s see how it shakes out.
