Elliot Harrison’s power rankings after week 3

I think some site had us at #4 in the power rankings (will try to find the link), saw something in passing on Twitter.

I have witnessed a FIRST on Twitter and the Huddle.

Panthers fans complaining we're ranked TOO HIGH!!!!  Never thought I'd see that.

But seriously, it IS shocking...  I never guessed we'd be catapulted up the standings like this on a lot of lists.  I'd probably put us around #7 or #8 personally... but it's hard to know.  Still way too early to really pay attention.

You can't rank us above the Rams and Chiefs who look legit. You can't rank us above the Eagles who have the same record as us, but are the defending SB champs. You can't rank us above the Saints who look like the exact same team that beat us 3x last year. But name me another team that should be ranked ahead of us. #5 is very fair and where I'd put us too. I keep seeing the Jags ahead of us, but they've looked pretty bad in 2 games and are currently hanging their hat on beating a, let's face it, pretty bad Pats team.

Atlanta torched us on the ground. Remember the snapping of the run game streak? We had a bad game that day. Hoping it was an aberration.

The Bengals torched also torched us on the ground.  They just didn't get to run as much as the Falcons did.

Ironically, we shut down the best back we have faced (Elliot).  I have a feeling its due to our defensive focus in the last two games being on slowing down the passing game.  Worked ok against Cincy, not so much against Atlanta.

Didn't Gio only have like less than 70 yards? They did gash us here and there but I don't think it amounted to a whole lot. I could be wrong though.

EDIT: Yeah they had 66 yds total, rushing. Gio had 61. They definitely did not torch us on the ground. They only had 13 rushing attempts.

Bengals had a total of 66 yards rushing, of which 61 yards were by Gio (averaged 5.1 yards / carry).

45 yards came on 2 rushes:

I was looking at ypc.  They averaged over 5 ypc.  They just didn't run it as much, in part because they got behind.  On their first drive, Bernard had 6 rushes, 1 yard, 7 yards, 9 yards, 4, yards, 4 yards, and 1 yard for a td.  His first run of the second half was for 23 yards. He had a 22 yard run towards the end of the third quarter.  After that, he only ran the ball two more times.

    • Sounds like the pressure of all the fans wanting him fired might finally be getting to him... That, or Rico said "trade me now if you aren't going to make me the lead back"
    • I have been paying so little attention after losses (and wins, actually, because I'm mildly excited by them), that I missed Dave's seeming change of heart on Rico and Chuba.  Just when I criticized him for not being able to make the tough decisions and wanting to be Mr. Politically Correct nice guy, when asked about the timeshare between Chuba and Rico, he says:   "We cannot ignore the fact that Rico has been exceptional in a couple of games and in the opportunities he's had over the last two weeks. He's made some excellent plays, love the tempo and violence that he's running with. And these are all things we're talking about and working through this week as we look back on these last four games and really taking a snapshot of what's been successful for us. These are conversations that we do definitely have to have."   On basically whether or not it was his job to keep the RBs "happy," DC replied:   "Yeah, that's not the goal," he replied. "The goal is to make sure we put the right guys out there. That's my job. So I really do have to look at that and evaluate it and make the best decision for the Panthers, collectively. And for me, I have to make sure I keep it about the football."   So now all of a sudden, he knows his job. Well, some of you might say that he always knew his job. My response is that he surely wasn't putting it into action. You watch what people do, not what they say. And that even applies here. We'll actually see if his actions match the words of his newfound epiphany pertaining to our two top RBs., something that we saw a couple of weeks ago (or at least a week ago).    https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/panthers/2025/10/27/panthers-week-8-dave-canales-rico-dowdle-chuba-hubbard/86923984007/
    • Just about everyone I have ever seen that was a first time HC, mostly successful coordinators, said there was stuff they couldn’t have imagined.  Canales only had one season as a coordinator. A steep learning curve should be expected. Help in the form of a mentor would have been a good idea.
