Bye Week: What if...

I like to think Navarro could have been a good owner, but we'll never know.

And it's no slight to him to say that the potential involvement of Peyton Manning would have been the most intriguing thing about his ownership.

Say what you want about Manning. He's arguably one of the best football minds of this generation.

Impossible to say, but it was never a real possibility to begin with IMO. The other 31 owners had already pegged Tepper as the next man in the club. Fortunately for us, it seems like they chose wisely.

Yeah, no complaints about Tepper, but it's valid to say that it was never gonna be anybody else.

I still find it amusing that the league told Michael Rubin not to bother if he wasn't ready to pony up at least 2.5 billion, but then Tepper held firm and got it for under 2.3.

(Jerry Richardson probably doesn't find that as amusing as I do)

The one question I still have remaining out of that process; Who was the "mystery" owner who came into the process late but ended up dropping out? I figured we'd hear who it was once the process was over, but if anybody's ever revealed his identity, I missed it.

Maybe somebody can ask Voth or Rodrigue.

I wonder if that mystery bidder ever actually existed in the first place. Maybe it was a last ditch effort to get Tepper to bump his bid a bit?

    • Does this mean only topics from within the last year or any topics with posts from the last year? i.e. if there are any old threads we feel should be kept around for whatever reasons, would a bump of that thread before the update ensure it's kept around in full or do the posts from more than a year old still disappear?
    • I'm more intrigued at him becoming our future LG. There were some people who thought he was better suited to be a guard in the NFL to begin with.  Then if Freeling ends up being a legit LT, moving Ickey to LG could give us an incredibly strong left side of our OL for years to come. Ickey has only played on the Left side his whole career, both in college and the NFL, so I just wonder if keeping him on the left side, even if shifting inside, would be better than putting him outside on the right side. Just hoping him growing up a Panthers fan will make him want to stay here and move positions than enter FA so he can stay at LT somewhere else, particularly since LT is the big money position on the OL, so he likely can get paid more by someone else to play LT than play LG or RT here for us.
