Ya'll, we need to just let people who disapprove of Reid's protest just sit and stew. Clearly he's touching on actual societal issues that have unfairly affected black people and folks are more mad that he brought it up than the issues themselves. It's no use arguing when they mask their discomfort towards independent black thought as a want for "historical accuracy." It's clear as day they pedantry over every little thing he's saying is just an attempt to discredit and silence because people are bitter he spoke up in the first place. Textbook white fragility.

And no, saying "white fragility" doesn't make me racist, it is totally a thing.

I have no problems with someone taking longer than me to marinate on what has been said by Reid, or even disagreeing with his approach. However I believe it's irresponsible to allow people on this forum to spread misinformation about what he's actually said, even if it was unintentional. A lot of them are dealing in feelings rather than facts.

I could literally say, in a totally non accusatory context "slavery was bad" and instead of saying "yeah", bc slavery was bad, someone like this Billy T wouldn't be able to help themselves and would need to interject with something like "well yeah but africans also sold other africans to Europeans so they played a part in it too" bc they can't let black people speak out about their hardships in peace, even when history backs it up. It's exhausting

The "stormhuddle" thing has been a running joke, but this sort of rhetoric here the day after one of the worst losses in franchise history is just shameful beyond words for this community.

Honestly I'm hoping the Panthers do something more to get engaged with the fanbase to offer alternatives. It should be about inclusiveness. Not shielding casual southern bigotry. The huddle just continues to move in the wrong direction.

I would love this too but the team's hands are tied. NFL doesn't want the problem acknowledged at all.

I give the Huddle a break because there's a lot to parse through here and bigotry is a bigger problem than just the fanbase. Moderating is volunteer work and they do a good job considering.

Oh we're just getting warmed up here :shades:

No. No we're not. I shown you for what you are. You've lied outright throughout this thread, and misquoted and misrepresented easily researched material, and when confronted you deny or make a weak attempt to pivot. That's intellectual cowardice on your part, which doesn't merit my continued participation.

Therein lay the schism, history does not back up Mr. Reid's screed.

Sure, we all know slavery existed, and for decades blacks were discriminated against, no doubt....

....but all the gibberish about "mass incarceration" and complete lack of access to various economic programs is just that, gibberish.

LOL, @ImaginaryKev! You tried to tell me!

What did he tell you?  That I would lead you to the truth?

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/WPcap/2000-03/16/042r-031600-idx.html

Thursday, March 16, 2000:

Fannie Mae, the nation's largest provider of mortgage funding for U.S. home buyers, said yesterday that it will earmark $2 trillion over the next decade for loans to minorities...

Raines said yesterday that Fannie Mae's purchases of loans to blacks are growing at a far faster pace than loans to other minorities or to whites.

...both companies agree they need to do more to serve those consumers, and Raines said yesterday he believed the $2 trillion campaign will eliminate any gap for blacks in Fannie Mae's buying patterns.

-------------------

No access huh?

Curious about where you stand on lending requirements....should lenders make lending decisions based on borrowers ability to pay them back?

Or should they be forced to loan to anyone and everyone just to diversify the demographic characteristics of their loan portfolio to a point that satisfies the whims of others?

LOL, you just keep trying to force your lie into sounding like the truth. That's not what Reid said. I posted a direct quote. The FHA was founded in the 1930's and the link you just posted as 'proof' is refers to the 2000's. So they were only denied due to redlining for 50-60 years. That still corroborates what Reid said:

"The Great Depression — they come out with the New Deal, and black people didn’t have access to those government stimulus packages. The New Deal set up what is known as the modern-day middle class. We didn’t have access to those programs, the GI Bill, social security, home loans, none of that."

Your weak attempt is weak.

And before you try to get cute and say that FNM and FRE have been around as long as the New Deal as some sort of refutation, remember, neither one required proof of no redlining until the 1990's, so again, Fifty Years.
