5-13 in the NFC South from 2016-18

We are struggling in our division because the team isn't built to defend the pass. We have two box safeties playing center field. We have LBs covering Wrs. Horrible nickel corner play. Then no pressure from the inside or edge.

I think the offense can improve next year with young pieces like Ian, CMC, Moore,  Samuel getting more experience and hopefully any lingering problems with Cam's shoulder is resolved.

However, the defense will continue to get worst if we dont start taking some of these vets behind the woodshed and putting them down. I truly believe if we had an average defense we would be 8-5 or even 9-4 right now.

And instead we have the worst defense in the league.

Wait. How are we 1-5 in 2018 with 3 division games to play? It’s obviously an ongoing problem though.

He is penciling the remaining three games as losses and I dont blame him. The Saints probably have to win out to secure Homefield and the Falcons might have lost 5 straight, but they are still a horrible matchup for this defense.

There’s not a team we can beat other than ourselves. The Raiders and 49ers are a horrible matchup for this defense.

Yes have to face reality. There were signs last year the defense was breaking down. I believe the defense or at least pass defense was ranked dead last second half of the season.

Good thing Ron took over and fixed things. If he isn’t fired, hooo boyy we are in for a 3-13 debacle next year.

I understand what he’s doing and the logic behind it. Doesn’t change the fact that we haven’t lost the games yet. I swear some people seem to revel in our struggles.

Time for us to forget about 2015, that was a million years ago in the NFL.  We laugh at Dallas all the time bragging about their super bowls.

As soon as Ron had job security (read after 2015) he went right back to who he always has been.  An average HC with some amazing pieces around him to keep him afloat.

Completely agree with this. Even more annoying is that we have more cap money in the D than the O. It follows that drafting S or DE and making some of these guys accountable for their performance is a good move.

    • He makes a good point about Wallace.  In fairness to Wallace it is hard to play your position as freely as you need to when your defensive line is getting pushed around like ragdolls.  One of the greatest attributes a defensive line has is sucking up blocks, freeing up your linebackers.  Our defensive line couldn't suck up a lollipop more or less blocks.  I think Evans, Sanders and Tremble are going to be a really nice TE group.  I can see all three getting time on the field.  If Sanders can improve as a blocker teams won't be so inclined to believe it is a pass play whenever Sanders is on the field.  Ryan Fitzgerald, I think was an awesome pick-up. Hopefully he can fill our kicker void. Luke Kandra many turn out to be our next Norwell.  Everything I have heard about him says he's a beast.  He needs some refinement, but the good news is he's got Hunt and Lewis (arguably the best guard tandem in the league) to learn from.
    • Great teams build through the draft and have several young players that start that are on rookie contracts. It's important to hit on players in rounds 4 thru 7.  These should be future starters and solid depth.  When you hit on most of your picks you free up a lot of cap space for those one- or two-year players to fill spots you are thin at. No GM is going to perfect on all their picks.  You're going to whiff every once in a while.  That was Hurney problem.  He'd nail the first pick but after that it was reach after reach and we couldn't get any depth on this team. I'm excited about Morgan as our GM and hopefully he'll be around a long time.  It will be even better if Canales can continue to grow as a head coach, both in the development of young players and play calling. I remember last season after Young came back in the lineup and started to perform well.  We saw different plays I had only seen other teams use.   If Canales's play design and play calling continue to grow. Morgan and Canales will be linked together for a long time.  It would be nice to see a Coach and GM together for a decade or two. Go Panthers
    • They also came out for the encore and the singers were dressed in canes jerseys. Pretty fuging cool.
