Fox willing to bench Jake

I honestly don't believe we have any good QB's on the team. But I haven't seen enough of Moore to totally dismiss him. As others have said, Jake has already cost us games with his turnovers...the only way Moore could be worse is if he would take the snap, run directly backwards to the opposite endzone, and curl up in the fetal position. And even then, that's not much worse than Jake is already doing.

Moore has had plenty of chance to move himself into the #2 spot since 2007. He couldn't make headway against a marginal Josh McCown.

The guy so far is Brett Basanez Part 2.

I really think Fox will go with Feeley because he has more gametime experience and that will make him feel it's the right call that gives us our best chance to win.

Again, if Moore DOES get the nod at some point and tears it up, I'll happily come back and eat crow. I'd LOVE to be wrong.

but again, you can look at 07....he was the best QB on the roster and proved it in games....Fox advised the vets deserved to be higher on the depth chart.

what makes you think there is anything different going on?

I agree with you here. But I think Feeley gets his shot first.

I agree with you....Feely jumps Moore this week on the depth chart even if Fox starts Jake. Fox is gonna make the first move to Feely...which will be pointless and simply delaying what needs to happen.

again, I am however not advocating Moore is gonna light it up or be the future.

Moore isn't going to light things up. He won't turn it over at the rate Jake does....which will make the team better.

You have absolutely no way of knowing this. Hell, he has 122 attempts passing the ball and has 6 INTs. Thats a pretty poor ratio.

I don't think Moore has shown to be the best QB on the roster right now. I believe Fox thinks the same thing by bringing Feeley in. I think Moore hasn't shown the coaching staff much if he continues to wallow at #3 on the depth chart even after 07.

I do agree the Moore doesn't have to do much to be a better option than Delhomme at this point.

That's pretty much what I was getting at too, I guess. Some people just need to temper their expectations for Moore a little. And no one should be shocked or surprised by Fox staying conservative and putting Feeley out there first.

I'm all for playing either at this point, what the Hell could it hurt?

Fox, learn from Lovie Smith. A few years ago, week after week, all you heard was, "Rex Grossman IS our QB". And where is he now, Fox? A backup for the Texans. And where is the QB who Lovie Smith didn't know how to use right? Kicking ass in Denver. Not that I think Moore is Orton...but damn..."Jake Delhomme IS our QB". Really, Fox?

Having seen a few of Moore's games a couple years ago, I always felt like he did have potential. At the time, I was glad he was a backup because I was looking forward to Jake's return.

If Moore works with the starters, I think he can be a solid QB.

there would be no way for Moore to shown he is the best....Jake takes the snaps each week with the starters. Therefore, Jake looked to bet he best...and it was his job w/o question after last season. Early on however, he proved the AZ game ended his career....other option should have begun to get some reps w/ starters in practice..that is the only what to show coaches where you really belong on the depth chart......but they have to give you a chance.

Fox just doesn't trust young talent overall...yes, there are rare exceptions.

He doesn't give them much of a chance to prove anything. Look at Jarrett, in VERY rare snaps in actual games the past two seasons...he shows enough to leave you wondering why Fox doesn't actually let him prove if he is a bust or not.

    • Like I said before, I don't get the "only as a UDFA" sentiment, you have to keep following your board. Now if Pavia falls to what amounts to the supplementary UDFA section of the board, that's great, but if he's sitting at the top when you're picking day three (yes, I can't see him being drafted before day three), then you pull the trigger. Rounds 5-7 don't generally provide keepers anyway, you can use them for players that you want to take a closer look at that you may be able to develop.  Pavia may not translate to the pros. Nobody would bet anything of value on it. But, he was highly productive in college due to his play extension abilities, "body torque" mechanics on short and intermediate throws, and good accuracy on said throws. And, he has that dawg in him to be sure.  All that being said, Drew Allar will probably be able to be had on day three, and if it comes down to it--due to nothing but my prejudice against short, weak-armed QBs--I'd pick Allar.
    • Yeah, receivers contracts are crazy, and it's probably not going to change. You almost have to take your swings--keep some picks at WR churning between rounds one through three in order to keep your costs down and give you options at contract time. Creating that value surplus appears to be more important at WR and all the premium positions than getting a non-premium position player who generally are just easier to replace as it pertains to value. The holy grail is to hit on a premium position late, but due to the gradually declining hit rate on days one and two that drops off a cliff day three, you basically have to get lucky.
    • Very interesting indeed. It did make my head swim more. It said a lot, but it still didn't give any concrete answers. Kinda makes me want to pivot back towards a premium position though...
