Obviously, Venables had a great defensive game plan for that game, and yesterday, but a great defensive game plan doesn't really make a difference if the players can't execute.

Nick Saban yesterday in the post-game interview regarding the 4th down FG fake said as much ... he was like "..because we missed a block it was a terrible play call, it always happens like that.." insinuating that if simply a block was made and the fake was converted nobody would be talking about how bad of a play call it was, only how great of a play call it was.

He did not have elite talent for that game nor season, though. Ben Boulware was the star of that defense and he isn't even in the league anymore. The only two defensive players drafted from that team were Carlos Watkins and Cordrea Tankersley.

Meanwhile, Ohio State was shut out with Curtis Samuel, JT Barrett, Pat Eflein, and Billy Price on their offense.

He just got a 5 year 11.5 million dollar deal. If it was about money for him he would have left for a job a long time ago and already had his pick of any number of decent HC jobs.

2 million a year to not have to deal with the managing the whole team, the media, etc. etc. is pretty fugin fantastic for anyone. If all you want to do is be a DC and still make bank then there is no problem. Some people want to do what they are good at and what they like to do. It'd actually be better for football overall if more people followed this.

Rivera for example should still just be a DC. Some people aren't HC material and take it for the money and fail out when they were never a great HC candidate anyway.

Dude doesn't like to lose....so his current position is ideal for him.  Not to mention, I think he's one of the highest paid coordinators in all of college football.  Basically has it made currently and don't think he wants to leave.

Dudes making lower level nfl head coach money. Like 2.5 million a year.
