Jeff Davidson, can you please RETIRE the WildCat?

Anyone see Arizona run the wildcat tonight with their safety, Antrel Rolle? He dropped back and threw a bomb to a wide-open Fitzgerald just feet from the endzone, but it was knocked out by two Giants defenders.

I wouldn't say we should retire the wildcat altogether. We just lack the creativity to use something like that effectively right now. I do, however, think we've got the personnel for it.

I just feel we are doing it wrong.

The dolphins run the wildcat because they have two strong backs. They take their QB out so everyone knows whats coming 98% of the time yet they still get yards. Why can't we do what they do? We have arguably the best backfield in all of football, an amazing WR and a decent oline with okay blocking TE's. Why not take jake's sorry ass out and actually run the wildcat with 11 on 11...with misdirection off a in motion stewart or smitty.

Instead our Mildcat is a direct snap to dwill where the whole defense can concentrate on the run with no illusions whatsoever. Its amazing that we even gain a yard.

But i guess its too much to ask fox or davidson to do something not out of football for dummies.

It is more like the Mildcat, it never works and is very illustrated when we run it.... lets not waste the down please

What.... you dont think a direct snap to D.Will and then him running directly straight into a pile of lineman for 2 yards is a good play??

I agree thought the wildcat, the way the Panthers run it, is a wasted play. Its the same everytime, like I described above.

If only we had personnel as good as those who used it to run all over Atlanta a few years ago. You know, guys like DeShaun Foster as a secondary option, and stud blockers up front like Mike Wahle, Will Montgomery and Evan Mathis. At least we still have Williams to take the snaps, but without the rest of that talent it's amazing our OC can get any positive yardage out of it at all...

    • I have no idea but I'll trust my own two eyes. He's still playing like one of the worst QB's in recent memory.
    • I don't play Madden anymore - but if they adjust ratings every week, they likely need to put his Awareness down to like a 5 out of 100 after that play and the other play where he couldn't decide whether or not to scramble or throw the ball and didn't really end up doing either one.
    • Just finished a re-watch of the game, and I can see how they back into "Bryce was fine, actually." You just have to be incredibly charitable to Bryce. The grade basically comes down to how much blame you assign to him for these plays: 1. The goal-line 4th-and-1 where the ball was snapped early. 2. The XL sideline toe-drag failure. 3. The left sideline Renfrow drop. 4. The second left sideline Renfrow missed connection (ugh). 5. The ball going through Dowdle's hands and getting picked. 6. The JT Sanders wheel-route drop. 7. The 4th-and-1 end-zone shot to T-Mac. If you put the drops on the receivers and massage his grade a little due to some quick pressures...sure, you get a passable grade. If you don't, then it looks pretty bad. But the only undeniably, balls-stupid, completely-on-him mistakes I remember right now were the fumble, the pick on the bootleg, and a spray or two. I'll just say that I don't really understand why everyone gets so upset about these grades. We all know they're pretty subjective and should really only be taken seriously over a sample size big enough to even some of these things out. It obviously matters that the offense looked like crap. But that'll all show up in the grades if that remains the case. Maybe they could be better about putting in a range? Like, they could go as low as a 30 or as high as an 80, depending on how you score those things, but they had to settle on something, so here's a 70.
