Any Clemson fans on here.

And can they give some info on Fields

He's a legacy guy, his dad was one of the 2 who we started the keep pounding moto as he was battling along with Mills during that superbowl run

Captain killed us last year at the Nickel and we need one this draft.

Fields seems like he fits that.  I know he had a solid Senior Bowl week.  Also he just posted this at the combine

Didnt ever really hear his name at Clemson.  Clemson fans can you give a quick rundown on him

Seems like he'd be a solid late (4th-6th) round options

I'm a Clemson fan.

I have a pretty simplistic view on this subject.   Clemson has had a fantastic defensive front in recent years.   I'd argue easily the best in college football of late.   But even w/ that terrific front....it never was able to actually mask how HORRIFIC the Clemson DBs were as unit.    What was the weakness at Clemson?  Only one.  The DBs frankly sucked in coverage playing behind a fantastic pass rush.   National title game IMO also overrates them.  That was the best the secondary looked all season.  One game is an outlier.  The entire season tells the story.

Any insight on Fields himself?

I get it, it's tough to judge an individual in an overall poor unit.  I remember when Tre Boston as at UNC. The Heels' secondary was quite possibly the worst I've ever seen at the P5 level. Unbelievably terrible. It was virtually impossible to tell who was actually doing their job and who wasn't because virtually every play featured busted coverages with guys streaking downfield wide ass open. Was Boston making a ton of mistakes or was he just being made to look bad because he was making out of place plays due to others' mistakes? Based on his NFL carer so far, I'd say the answer was just plain yes.

my insight is his combine is going to make a team draft him much higher than he deserves.  I think too much is made out of the combine numbers.  Combine measures athletic ability more than football ability often.  Too many NFL teams get lured into the combine thinking they can make a guy into something he has never shown to be.

the last time I saw good DB play in Clemson was MacKenzie Alexander.   Haven't seen a single DB even close to him at Clemson.  My guess is if you draft Fields you are going to get a Boston type.

    • I don't believe this at all.
    • His PPG actually did go up a little in Colorado. We will see. I still sort of believe we saw pretty close to the peak of his abilities last year. Not wishing him ill or trashing him in any way. Just tend to believe we did sell high and correctly so.
    • Well, other teams also had an offseason. I honestly agree with him. Right now I have way more faith in Coker ascending then I do XL. I think it's the TE/WR group dragging us down. Plus he does mention that the list was made with WR's very much valued more than RB's and TE's(I understand the thought process). In that context, we have a very aging AT, two "wait and see" second year players(one leaning bust) and a rookie.  I really think this is a very fair rating, on paper and in the offseason. Quite frankly, aside from the aforementioned and aging AT, this is a bunch of guys still trying to prove themselves.  Then when you go to TE, it's easily a bottom 3-4 unit on paper. That is probably being extremely generous.  RB is where we make our hay. Probably a top 5-10 unit. But....he mentions early in the article that he doesn't value the RB units as much.  So, really, it's the weighting of the skill positions that is what really fugs us.
