Pick 154: Carolina Panthers select Jordan Scarlett

This may honestly be the pick I have the biggest problem with. I didn't like picking Little and I definitely didn't like trading up for him, but at the end of the day if he's what we think he is then he'll be WELL worth what we spent. I was indifferent on the Grier pick.

But Scarlett? A credit card thief workout warrior with mediocre on-field production? Fug. I get that he has upside, but fug. Watch your wallets in the locker room, fellow Panthers.

Jordan “Lifelock” Scarlett. He will either run them or steal them blind.

As I said before I am starting to warm up to this pick. I want a 4th qtr Thumping clock killer. And if you watch him in his games and the combine I love how he carries the ball.  High and tight like old Tiki Barber.  What does this translate into?  He only had 1 fumble last year. Add in he led  the SEC in yards after contact in the 4th qtr.  Starting to really like this kid

I liked Travis Homer our of Miami but he has huge ball security issues

You must have forgotten or be too young to remember the absolute fumbling machine that Tiki was early on in his career.

He was a fumbling machine until he changed his carrying style.

He had a big under 2000 all-purpose yards during his college career averaging 57 all-purpose yards per game in his college career. That's very mediocre for an NFL RB prospect.

CAP had over 1750 in his final college season alone.

5 yds a carry is not mediocre ...

CJ Anderson had 1485 all-purpose yards in college. I'm not too worried about this pick. He'll produce as long as our line creates holes for him.

Is that really a good example for us? Maybe if we were Rams fans or Broncos fans, but CJ Anderson as an example for a Panthers player doesn’t really bode well.

It is a good example.

Thats what I'm thinking. On paper, Anderson was a perfect compliment to CMC and we hardly played him before releasing him mid-season. It really sounded like we wanted a CMC-lite as our backup to more closely replicate what CMC does for our offense. Then we draft this guy who is another power oriented RB who seemingly can't catch at all.

If we didn't play Anderson, not sure how this guy sees the field.

You may be right.  But I just like finding a new underdog to root for every season. This year I think Scarlett is my guy.  Holyfield May be tough but he is a plodder. This kid has strength and speed.  I really like how he runs.

Who knows if we will ever use him.  But at least I can get my hopes up.  We have no intention of ever using CAP.
