3 Kickers?

Someone remind me again why we have 3 kickers? Alright say we hold on to Kasay, a team playing this bad cant keep 3 kickers. Baker will have more punts blocked this year because he holds the ball to long and his kicks bounce back towards him and he doesnt have hangtime. Llyod kicked off twice Sunday and neither were close to a touchback. So we sign Dexter Jackson who could be a asset as a returner and gunner, put him on the practice squad and keep Rhys Llyod? He seems more worried about twitting than kicking. We have to have a kicker or a punter that can kickoff, theres no room on an NFL team for a kickoff specialist. Matt Bosher for the Miami Hurricanes looks like he can do all 3, but you have to keep at least 2 kickers in case of injury. So, do we keep Kasay, Baker and Llyod for the remainder of the year?

Our ST's have not been special in a number of years. I have wondered how in the world the ST's coach keeps his job. We can't cover KO's or punts, and we can't gain any decent yardage when we try to return KO's or punts. We fumble like crazy also.

I agree that Lloyd saved the ST's bacon last year with all the long KO's, but he is not getting it done this year. Next year, we need to get rid of him and Kasay and bring in a young guy that can handle KO's and FG's. We could use that extra roster spot for a playmaker of some kind.

i don't see why so many people have an issue with using one roster spot on an extra kicker, i can name plenty of useless players on the roster (starting with dwayne jarrett). rhys lloyd is doing ok, and one player, other than a QB or someone we couldn't afford to play, would have made no difference on sunday. Also Baker is playing better since his mistakes early in the season.

I think people are letting their disappointment in the team spread to parts of the team that really are not to fault. Kasay had a bad game, but he's had a bad game before (03 vs eagles i think he missed 5 field goals). why throw guys who are playing average/ having a single bad game under the bus when players like Chris Gamble, Jake Delhomme and Charles Godfrey are stinking up the field week in and week out.

remind me what we would have on the roster instead of that?

i do agree that having 3 seems a bit crazy and i hope that the new administration next year will replace our three kickers with a more competent punter and a PK who can also do kickoffs.

and I don't see why people find anything they can to get all hot and bothered about... another example, another waste of time... (directed to the OP)

Kasay can kick FG's of 50+ , so a kickoff of 65 would put us about where we are now. Llyod is making over $41,000 per touchback, talk about highway robbery! Now I agree last year he was a real factor, when we were scoring around 3 TD's per game. I also agree that Jarrett sucks also, nows the time to start weeding out the non-producers. Everyone on this team should be on notice, either produce or be released.

Useless now. This is something that needs to be decided in training camp not halfway through the season.

Really need to just let Kasay retire in the offseason and just get a kicker that can do both. Maybe fill it with some player that is just good at ST and maybe when the kicker does kick it to the 5 we might be able to stop him before the 30.

    • Disclaimer:  In June, I am usually optimistic.  In October, a policeman with a bullhorn is telling me that I have a lot of life ahead of me and to think about my loved ones as I gaze down upon him from my rooftop.   Having said that, I think our offense (down the stretch) was good enough to play KC and Philly tough.  So how many games would this offense have won if they played the entire season like they did in November-January and if they had a better defense?   If you could stretch the last nine games over an entire season and put a solid defense on the other side, I see 5 wins becoming 7 or 8.  Down the stretch, the Panther D surrendered 30 points or more in 5 of the final 7 games and managed to win 2 of those 5.  If they can win 40% of games in which their defense surrenders 30 points or more, then the math indicates, had that been the case all season, the Panthers should have won 6 or 7 games with their defense surrendering 30+ points.   This season, we are much better at WR (TMac, Renfrow, Horn, and I expect XL to be a lot better).  Bryce is confident and now a leader.    The Achilles' heel of the 2024 defense, the DL, seems to be very solid.  We got back Horn and Jackson on the corners, Smith-Wade is improving better than expected, we signed a stud Safety.  Derrick Brown returns.  While the D is not there yet, it is going to be better.   So if we ended the second half of 2024 playing at a level that should have produced 6-7 wins, better WRs and a better defense could result in 9 wins or more.
