Marty Hurney tried to trade up to get Greg Little as early as the No. 21 overall pick in the first round

Have to agree to disagree. JR did have his hands on everything. The Jake Delhomme contract, who could or couldn't be on the team. Would Eric Reid be here if JR was here? No, and we wouldn't have benefited from him plugging that hole last season, last minute. Jerry limited the team in many many many ways.

Would Jerry Jones give up his star defensive tackle because of shaky accusations that resulted in nothing legally and because the media wanted a sacrifice? I really don't think so.

Hurney has owned up to the bad contract extensions.  Did JR have some say, yes, but JR did not put the nuts and bolts of those contracts together, Hurney did.  Also, if JR had that much of the final say in operations, do you think he would have allowed Gettleman to ditch Smitty and Norman the way he did?  Again, JR obviously had his input, but the coach and GM ultimately make the operations decisions.

JR had one underlining agenda, don't damage the brand.  To that end, no Reid would not have been here last year, but he wasn't the only safety on the market either.  Remember there was a glut of FA safeties last offseason.  The team felt he was the best one out there and was their choice, but it wasn't for a lack of options.

Would Tepper damage the brand? Is willfully trying to win football games damaging the brand or was it playing to win the moralitybowl like some kind of moral gentleman who hates controversy and dreadlocks?

It was a calculated risk to be sure and continues to be a touchy subject to some.  The whole Reid thing has been beaten to death, so let's not rehash it.  My whole thing was it seemed you were scapegoating JR for the past ills of the organization when operations is generally not what the owner handles on a daily basis unless, again, it's Jerry Jones.

this is in no way a defense of richardson, but he isn’t the only owner who would’ve forbid his executives from bringing eric reid in. if he were then we never would’ve had a shot at him.

Tepper did the opposite of 30+. I liked his gumption. That didn't hurt the brand. As a day one fan I'm happy to see an owner here with a brass pair. Our DLine and the Superbowl may have had a better cast had better decisions been made.

You guys are here scapegoating Marty. Marty2.0 may just be a better GM because of Tepper. Anybody thought of that?

JR limited this franchise in many ways including financially. He'd try every other year and refused to do a lot of things financially and morally. You can't tell me that those limitations gave Marty everything he needed to do what him or Fox or Rivera wanted to do on the football field. JR wasn't absentee he was here and everybody knows that so took constantly bang on Marty 1.0 isn't fair either. He's killing now. Experience is a good thing. So is another chance at it all. I don't think he's taking this for granted.

That's not how this structure works.  Giving a stamp of approval is not the same as actually running operations.  So far Marty 2.0 has managed the cap better, free agency better and not let his personal feelings for players dictate his operational  goals.  What is left to be seen is if Marty 2.0 can draft better than Marty 1.0.   That's what was being debated here.

Drafting well into the third round is just one example then because 1.0 would only hit on first and maybe the second. In hindsight his last draft may end up being one of the best in franchise history.

    • That should have been this year. Tough to sell to anyone worth getting when this crew is going into year 3 on the hot seat. I still think keeping Evero will sink them all after last year's showing. If/when he is scapegoated they need to show improvement or it's likely to be so eone else's problem next year. I do agree in principle tho, it all should have happened after last year's problems.
    • I've listened to some things that have calmed the "Bryce was flat out terrible" to just "he was really bad" in Week 1. It's Year 3 though, and that shouldn't be the barometer. I've got 1% hope left for Bryce, and that's just blind homerism coming out.  I'm scared that as much emphasis as the team places on advanced stats and PFF that the team *doesn't* think Bryce was that bad in Week 1. Couple that with so many of the QBs in the league looking rough, offense being down in general, and I feel like there's a lot of "what if's" going on in the building instead of facing the music.  Lose Week 2, and we should switch the main focus back to building/churning the roster, evaluating young guys, and hoping our next QB can have a Jayden Daniels level of impact. As we're all well too aware of, QB is a crapshoot a lot of the time. Admit we made a bad pick, and go draft another. And another. Repeat until correct.
    • I wouldn't want any of those starting as a rookie on day 1.  That said, we need a vet, that is not Andy Dalton, that can be the starter while a prospect grows and learns on the sidelines.
