Gotta say I'm not really into this current trend of monstrously powerful slow-moving hurricanes

It’s mostly due to high pressure ridge up north.  It creates invisible weather wall.  If not for that ridge, hurricane would probably do u-turn and go back out to ocean.

Best case would be it gets pushed into the Florida straits and dies in the gulf.  If the models taking it into south Fl - Miami/Lauderdale area are right and its a 4 there is going to be some major poo going down.

Yup, sat through Irma there.  Total poo storm

Looks like its pushing north.

Just $hitty for.me, moving to Tampa this weekend.  So packing up a few days early to try to unpack before Dorian

Good luck homie.  Per latest model it will move only like 200 miles in 36 hours.

Its been going on for a while though it seems to be getting worse.  I was living in the Middle Sound area north of ILM in 1998 when Bonnie  stopped dead in its tracks before finally moving on the next day - all night long we would go in the eye then back into the eyewall as it sat on us stationary and wobbled and spun.  It got old really quick.

Going to Wal-Mart either way today.

We are still somewhat recovering from last year here at the coast.

Time to get prepared just in case.

It's taken almost a year to get back to something normal. Had to move from Rocky Point to Sneads Ferry to Hampstead. Pretty much everything I own is not what I had last year. And haven't even started making payments on the SBA loan I had to get.

Although overall the environment ahead of the storm appears conducive for strengthening, some models (in particular the ECMWF) suggest that some northerly shear could come into play while Dorian moves through the northwestern Bahamas, and for that reason the NHC official intensity forecast is not quite as bullish as the HCCA, Florida State Superensemble, and HWRF models.

NHC saying at 5 am that they don't think it will be as strong as earlier predicted.  Still have to consider that if it is moving slowly, which they predict,  a lot of damage can be done - even from a cat 1 storm.
