Not so sure about a “team friendly deal” but I get your point and agree.

As far as I can remember Cam has always been about the team and winning. If all is good health wise he is going to get paid, deservedly so . But I just don’t think he will hold out or demand a deal that will be overly detrimental to the team. He will get it done quietly.

People can have their opinions about Cam but he’s never shown me anything but being a super team player. For as “new-gen” as he is... he still has that old school way about him too.

Agreed.  The current deal is team friendly.  When the time comes if the going rate is $38 million I highly doubt Cam and his agent Bus Cook will go for a team friendly deal at $28 million.  Cam ain't married to Gisele after all...

Speaking of his agent, the guy is about as under-the-radar as any successful NFL agent can be.  Interesting to note he represented Jadaveon Clowney from the time he was drafted until about 3 weeks ago when Clowney fired him.

The Texans were looking for a team-friendly deal from Cook/Clowney but were not able to secure one.  Ultimately they tagged Clowney and he refused to sign and fired Cook.....

.....lo & behold Clowney re-hired Cook and they ended up working out a deal with the Seahawks.

We're cruising into a disaster here. We're going to break this team's cap finances to pay an aging, below-average QB? How does that typically work out?

An “aging QB” at 30?

33,277 combined yards and 240 combined TDS are below average in a players first 8 years in the league??

The only concern is the shoulder.....not age or performance

That contract was such a good move by DG.

Essentially, Ron, Marty, and Cam are all in a "contract year" this year.

If Cam is Cam, he will be extended.  If Cam is Cam, we likely make the playoffs, and Ron and Hurney buy another year or two.

If Cam cannot go for 16, I think you will see a VERY different panthers team in 2020.

People are always trying to stir the pot.

Cam will get a new contract. Anyone think that clearing cap to carry over is in preparation for that?

obviously if his should falls apart before that then we go in a different direction.

he knows that.

Nah, the clearing cap space was either a misguided attempt at AB or Clearing cap space Incase we have someone big go down.

In the long run it was to lock Bradberry and possible Shaq down now before next season.

In the very long term it was to make sure we have our other pieces in place before Cam is up again. The key right now is making sure Cam stays health and still wants to play the game for another 10 or so years.

Yeah and not retire like Andrew Luck. Who collected a check and did absolutely squat.
