Hurney isn't going to be demoted or limited to college scouting

Here is a transcript of the interview on panthers.com. Nowhere does it give only qualified praise for Hurney or suggest big changes to the GM position. In fact the new VP is discussed as linking the football to business side and giving Hurney help so he can focus on the football side. You can post all the articles you want trying to whip up theories about limiting Hurney but the official site which is controlled by Tepper and the Panthers debunks the notion that Hurney isn't doing a good job and that his role will be limited. Now at 63 Hurney might not be the long term solution and Tepper could be holding back bigger changes for down the road, but all this talk about Hurney being demoted or limited seems to be a few folks reading into things what they want to happen. At least not at the present time.

My biggest complaint about Hurney is he fails at building depth at positions to allow us to compete if someone goes down... Dave Gettleman drafted the "Hog Mollies" everyone complained about so much... Vernon Butler came in for short and filled in well... Gettleman definitely saw the secondary issue in 2016, but everyone who has followed the Redskins has saw Josh Norman is not worth what they're paying him... Literally 3/4 of the Secondary retired in 2015 and Bene decided to suck and everything went down... But now his 2nd round pick is our #1 cb and is getting ready to get PAID. Vernon Butler was a depth pick... sometimes you have to spend high picks to get depth on positions as important as the lines... Injuries are going to happen there, it is 8/10 times a issue with these positions... We fired Gettleman after 12-4 7-8-1 (This was Rivera's fault), 15-1, 6-10 (This is the one season that was 100% on Dave Gettleman not making a trade to get a CB. This would've been a good time to send a Thomas Davis out to start Shaq Thompson and I'm sure someone would've gave a decent cb for him to be able to start Bradberry at the 2. 2017 he gets fired for not wanting to extend Greg Olsen and TD (look who got the last laugh) and one player ends up playing 2017 and 2017 and leaving and one missed 80% of the year... The difference between Gettleman and Hurney?  One got another chance, the other didn't. Half the league couldn't tell you Marty Hurney's name. He's that one guy who roomed with the owner in college and got a job he really shouldn't have.

He should be the GM of college and draft scouting and someone needs to be brought in to make roster and free agency decisions... This is the same GM that cut Kyle Allen who then proceeds to be the best backup out of 3 qbs...

You're correct. Gettleman was a pro personnel guy.

I'm also okay with the idea of confining Marty to the draft while handing a lot of the other GM duties over to the new guy. Tepper has spoken repeatedly about Marty as a drafter but refers to him as "not a bad" GM. That says a lot.

In that same vein, the press conference gaffe where he did the "let's not give him that kind of compliment" thing was hysterical. I'm still laughing at that.

Bottom line: Indications are pointing to his days as a full power GM being over shortly.

Actually the article specifically says he is a good GM. No mention of" not a bad GM." Again your words not his.

Good article, far more in depth about the front office restructuring and how Tepper has gone about reshaping the franchise.  He suggests the Patriot model seems to be the target.

I posted this article last night in another thread. Seems he is bringing in more folks not limited Hurney to a specific role.

Gettleman stinks dude. He's stinking it up in New York too.

He said it in another video dude. Jesus.

Yep. The Voth interview, which more and more I'm thinking was done as a reaction to Tepper looking kinda off at his presser yesterday.

You would have been able to see the clip where he demotes his draft evaluation skills from "incredible" down to "very good" on the Panthers site yesterday but they took the video down.

Actually he didn't. He said outstanding and then said very good. How is that not bad?  Link the video dude where he specifically said not bad

So you think I’m lying? He had a presser with the media. The voth one and the other one. And said that. Multiple posters can confirm it.

They'd better fix it this time and keep it fixed.

I'm quite tired of the mediocrity, inconsistency, and bad forethought.

Actually Tepper said he makes lots of mistakes and then is smart enough to fix them. Sounds like he is flexible enough to make changes and then make them again. I guess he expects fans to have the same kind of flexibility.

No I read and saw the pressers as well. I think you heard what you wanted to hear not what was actually said. Again post it. Otherwise it is merely second hand and highly unreliable

Again where does very good equate to not bad except in your mind.

I’ve tried looking up the other presser. It has mysteriously disappeared.

It's a little after four and a half minutes in on this clip.

The Panthers took the video of Tepper's press conference announce announcing that Rivera was fired down. They had a link to it (David Tepper is at the podium) posted about 2:48pm yesterday.

You can still see snippets of it on the PFT link that I posted in the other thread but the full original video is gone, I'm guessing because they felt Tepper didn't come off looking good in it.
