"Patience, grasshoppa."

Daniel Snyder was extremely successful and made a couple of billion before buying the Reskins.  Jerry Jones was successful in his business ventures before buying the Cowboys.  Jimmy Haslam built his Flying J empire and is worth about $3B, not exactly a failure.  Yet none of them has been successful at creating consistently winning NFL organizations.  Jones early successes were more due to Jimmy Johnson than himself (I think history bears that out), and he resented that so he fired the guy.  Sounds buffonish, but yet, he built his own financial empire quite successfully.  One thing has nothing to do with the other.

That said, Tepper has NFL experience with a strong organization and I am willing to let things roll.  This mess wasn't built in one season, and it will take a while to replace it with something more productive.  Losing is not going to drive me away, I've been through that before.  Losing with no point will wear on my patience, but that is not what he is trying to do here.

I'm all in favor of dispatching Hurney at the earliest opportunity, too.  I think the organization needs a clean break with the past.  That may be where Tepper wants to get to, as well, but he realizes the world will not stop while he does it.

I have more confidence Tepper knows what he has to establish here than any of the three stooges I mentioned above.  He's established solid organizations before, and his time with the Steelers gave him an insight into what such an organization should look like, as well as the breakdown of roles and responsibilities in the NFL.  Give him time.

JR had lots of football experience. So did Ron. What’s your point? Tepper is going to do everything he can to make the Panthers good. That is more than most owners around the league do. He’ll make mistakes, but at least we know he is turning over every rock.

Seriously, is there a realistic scenario that would make you happy? You strike me as a guy who would have been furious at Robert Kraft because the patriots when 6-10 his second season.

JR was a former football player with a SB ring. Kraft surrounded himself with knowledgeable football people. Tepper has Marty Hurney who was terrible his first stint and fired once.

You do know he was a minority owner of the Steelers for about 9 years, right?

That's in the past, and it has a lot to do with football.

What exactly does a minority owner do? Please tell me. I’m sure they handled a lot on the football side huh

I think some of you guys imagine that you would walk into the ownership role of the Panthers and find yourself taking the team to 19-0 records immediately.

It takes time to figure things out. I like his approach - from what I can see on the outside. He came in and observed first. No knee-jerk decisions. I think he's looking at things from the long view. Granted, that doesn't guarantee success, but there are many things that need to be addressed for this organization, both on the field and otherwise.

I know we all want to see a winner, but there are lots of moving parts and Rome wasn't built in a day.

I’m not asking 19-0. I’m just asking not to go 1-7 the last eight games last season and now go 1-6 the last seven games this season.

Please explain what this has to do with football:

That dude has no clue.

He can be amusing to mess with though. You can make up fake player names and talk about plays in the game that never happened and he'll act like he knows exactly who and what you're talkin about :)

"Hey, remember when Carl Allen threw that interception to Linus Van Pelt?"

"Yes, I thought it was a terrible read."

I don't mean to make it personal, but what exactly would you do?

There is a wet paper bag of an o-line. No QB would have much of a chance behind it as it stands, let alone an UDFA.

Which, of course, brings up the fact that our franchise QB has been hurt for the past few seasons.

There was an awkward transition from a 4-3 to a hybrid 3-4 that, along with injuries, gutted the run D.

I mean, sometimes, things just are the way they are, and you have to examine the total picture with a little detachment before making sweeping, impetuous changes that aren't going to ultimately make things better in the long term.

Screaming "Win now!" as loudly as you can and firing/cutting everyone isn't going result in anything positive. It would just be change for the sake of change, and could ultimately do more harm than good.

Jesus the misinformation and short nearsightedness in this thread

The Panthers weren't 1 or 2 games out of the playoffs when they fired Ron, they were 3 games with 4 games left. Meaning we had to hope 1 team lost out and we won out. Are you crazy.

Second, you live in the wrong era if you want to finish strong in the season and miss the playoffs. That's actually the worst thing you can do. Ideally we would have gone 2-14 and gotten Burrow.

To be fair, it's valid that knowing how to make money doesn't mean he knows football.

There's a great bit in Armageddon where Billy Bob Thornton calls Jason Isaacs character the smartest man on the planet. Then later on, when he's talking about drilling (which Isaacs has no experience with) Bruce Willis basically calls him a moron.

Intelligence doesn't automatically equal skill at everything.

With all that said, I'll grant that this thread is a little silly.
