One way to curb some of the speculation: spend less time speaking this freely to the press. It’s just a thought. Yes, I know folks will speculate regardless.

To be fair though, wasn't one of the things people hated about Jerry Richardson that we never heard from him?

Sure. But there’s a good middle ground. Hey, look. It’s a busy time for the guy. I get it. He’s trying to hire his own coach without a general manager, while also trying to start up a new soccer team. There’s a lot of stuff going on. So of course he’s going find a camera and talk. That’s his nature, and these are his assets.

He's definitely not camera shy. Granted, the "don't quote me" reporter gatherings are a tad different.

I didn’t catch that. I haven’t been following his interviews much.

Here you go:

“Cam’s future is going to largely be up to how good he feels,” Tepper said. “That’s first. It’s actually an interesting question to me when there’s a lot of speculation on this because there should be no speculation on Cam one way or the other. If Cam’s healthy, he’s an elite player. So we all hope Cam’s healthy. And people will use an elite player because there just aren’t that many elite players in the league.

Why is that? We have the best WR/RB duo this league has seen in many seasons. Isn't that a little exciting?

5 wins, multiple blowout losses within a month, swept by the Falcons again, likely to be swept by the Saints again, and in the cellar of our division.

Not much excitement.

But yay Cam is finally almost gone.

That quote is a pretty good illustration of the point Igo was making.

What he said: "If he's healthy, Cam Newton is an elite player."

What he didn't say: "If he's healthy, Cam Newton will be a Panther next year."

What he did say: "there should be no speculation on Cam one way or the other."
