How Far Would You Trade Back? 23 Too Far?

Over the last several years, I put CBS draft coverage in the same boat as Walter Football. There coverage is vanilla and often flawed...especially their mocks.

By no means is any of this an exact science nor can anyone predict how the actual draft will shake out. It's just that CBS does what everyone else does at a lower level of intelligence, IMO.

Joe Marino's latest mock has us dealing with the Patriots in order for them to move up to 7 for their QB of the future. In this scenario, we move back to 23 (also receive NE 2020 3rd rounder - #87 overall) and select Kenneth Murray as our new franchise MLBer

More importantly though, we also land New England's 2021 1st rounder and 2021 3rd rounder in the proposed trade.

He has us selecting:

R1: Kenneth Murray (LB)

R2: Neville Gallimore (DT)

R3: Damon Arnette (CB)

R3: Damien Lewis (OG)

Then in 2021, we still inherit New England's 1st rounder and their 3rd rounder too.... only losing the #7 overall this year. Simmons and Okudah were off the board, leaving only Brown or Kinlaw on defense and all of the OTs still there.

I would 100% be on board for this. We still get a franchise LBer and a mean DT, while still securing a CB2 in Arnette. In 2021, we load up on ammo to move around the draft board as needed. This flexibility for 2021, makes losing Brown or Kinlaw okay because Gallimore is such a talented DT while adding a patrolman like Murray at 23.

Thoughts??

I want as many pics next year as possible

That would be tempting.

You would have 3 picks in the top 50.  You might end up with something like Thomas (OT), Mims (WR). Fulton (CB)

    • I’m really having a hard time understanding how this actually went down. -Renfrow expected to make roster as 2nd/3rd string. -Panthers cut Renfrow; Keep Brycen Tremayne, and add UDFA receiver (Dalevon Campbell) to active roster.  -Canales/Morgan say it’s totally up to Hunter whether he wants to come back or not, they would love to have him.    -Renfrow not signed to PS -Panthers trade Adam Thielen -Hunter Renfrow signed to active roster with a raise after an injury to Coker nobody heard about and is likely to start.    Our WR room is now: -Xavier Legette (2024 1st round pick) -Tet McMillan (2025 1st round pick) -Hunter Renfrow (1 year out of the league) -David Moore (Canales’ friend? A guy way past his prime) -Jimmy Horn (Likely a Shi Smith reprint, but has potential 2025 6th round pick, weighs 174 lbs) -Brycen Tremayne (2023 UDFA who was on Washington’s PS for 2 years and caught 1 pass for -2 yards and averaged 300 yards per year at Stanford) -Dalevon Campbell (2025 UDFA had a good preseason but had 1463 yards and 3 TDs over 5 college seasons at 3 different schools). What the hell is going on?
    • Not uncommon for week 1 games. Especially against good defenses. It’s why I prefer my team play these small schools week 1 if they are going to play them. Gives the offense time to get calibrated.
