Newton and the Patriots have touched base

Analysts have noted that Newton isn't a "plug and play" quarterback you can just stick into any system. You have to build around his skill set.

With that in mind, it's worth noting that the Patriots are probably the most adaptable team in the league. They deliberately seek out players who are smart enough to "shift on the fly", so they're arguably the team best suited to bring him in as a midseason replacement.

The problem? Their cap space is virtually nada. They'd either need to create enough space to sign him to a decent contract or Newton would need to be willing to settle for a lower deal (or both).

The cap space is what I believe is their big hold up with Cam. I don’t think he would sign for $1 million.

Belichick rode with a serial killer (Hernandez), complete nutjob (Antonio Brown), WWE caricature (Gronk) and took on Randy Moss at a time when he was viewed as a locker room killer.

Don't tell me Belichick wouldn't take a healthy Newton because of "locker room" concerns. It's absurd.

It's money and health.

Right. Belichick wants to win at all costs. If they had cap space they’d bring Cam in for a look.

I dont get saying Newton has to have "a system to fix him". Just because RR ran a read op  offensive doesn't mean he cant run a more Pro style system. I wish Newton well hope he can get on somewhere. (AFC hopefully)

Celebrations have never hurt the team. Cam stopped celebrating after the 2015 season. Some fans who opposed celebrations wanted Cam to bring the swagger back because our team lost the swagger it had.

Doesnt matter, they always waited till the last second to snap the ball anyway

You might want to reread the article and attempt to understand the situation...  (or possibly read it for the first time...lol)

Bruh... so was Gronk.

The difference is that as quarterback you are the leader of the team and the team will reflect that. Brady was the leader  not Gronk. Gronk was just a goofy tight end that caught balls and was tough.  Look at how Brady and Belichick both were no nonsense, demanding,  vocal.  Rivera just let Cam be Cam. I doubt total control Belichick would be so tolerant.

Hernandez

Randy Moss

Ochocinco

Antonio Bryant

Josh Gordon

Ryan Mallett

Belichick doesn’t give a fug about choir boys.

Nope, he sure doesn't.

However, the team always comes first and when the scale of distraction vs. contribution tilts against the player it is game over, pronto.

Therein lay the problem....

Not at all. Are any of the players you mentioned quarterbacks. No. That is the point. We aren't talking about individual players we are talking about Belichick wanting the team leader to reflect his attitude and no nosense approach. You can post as many names as you want. If they aren't Brady, my point remains the same.

Who said anything about choirboys. You miss the point obviously. With the exception of Mallett who I don't even remember starting unless it was injury,  none were QBs. And my point is that he wants someone who has his demeanor and attitude as the QB and leader of the team . And I don't think  that Newton  shares Belichicks no nomsense, serious it is all business approach.  I guess you want them to take him so badly so he can play again you are throwing things on the wall hoping something sticks. It isn't about tolerating players who are bad boys, it is instilling the Patriots way through the team leader which was Brady. And he was about as opposite of Newton as there is

What makes you sure he wants a qb with his demeanor? He’s only had Brady as his qb.
