You don't drop superior players to keep less superior players. Bradberry was never as good as some in the Huddle thought he was. And, to be honest, he was downright abysmal at times!

You're still not grasping the concept of positional value. And I wouldn't make the argument that Shaq is a better LB than Bradberry is a CB to begin with.

I had Corn at about a .000000000002018000154% chance to make the team. I never try to rag on any panthers, but Corn was XFL talented. Then I thought for sure hes going to get cut once the CB Douglas claim hits, nope he survived that too. He made the team and not among 53 range, maybe he turned the corner.

I think it's just a statement of how bad our CB corps is.

Not for his contract. I think he's the second highest paid 4-3 OLB in the league based on his contract. We'll probably jump on that out if he's just above average.

From what I read, his salary for this year isn't that high.  His guaranteed money seems very low.  He gets a significant bump next year, but who knows what the average salary will be in a couple of years.

It's basically a two year guaranteed contract with a team option for the next three years. After the first two years, we can pretty much cut bait at any point with minimal dead cap.

Your argument isn't really about positional value, it's based upon supposed lack of scarcity of good DBs versus CBs. If it were about the position, then LBs are more valuable than CBs, as they get paid more on average.

You might not say Thompson is better, but plenty of analysts would.

It really is about positional value. Those LBs making more than Shaq are 3-4 pass rushing LBs. That's a different position altogether more akin to a 4-3 DE.

Not really. Khalil Mack and Von Miller don't come along everyday.

Bobby Wagner & C.J. Mosely make their living in the second level for the most part. If Kuechly were still playing, he'd be right there among the leaders.

Wagner and Mosely are 4-3 MLBs like Luke. Those guys are generally the QBs of the defense. 4-3 OLB is generally speaking a greatly devalued position in today's NFL. Shaq might be the top paid guy in that role.

And of course they structured Shaq's contract like that. Although above average, it really hasn't been his show until now. He's going to have to prove that he's worth more. Bradberry did not do that. He just didn't!

You're assuming Marty re-signed the right guy. Based on Marty's history that's a very risky bet.

Just remember this conversation when Julio Jones, Michael Thomas, and Mike Evans are having field days against us this year.

I am willing to move on from a player who is not a top corner in the league but expects to be paid like one this year, in order to upgrade the position next year.

It's not like Bradberry was a shutdown corner. I had high hopes for him in the beginning to even equal Chris Gamble's value and consistency, but over time Bradberry just wasn't that guy. Some continued the mental gymnastics regarding him in their minds, but I found myself just wishing for a true upgrade. And, apparently unlike you, I don't think that it's going to be so difficult a task. So, yeah, we may get torched this year, but I doubt it will endure into next season.

In my mind, Bradberry was not a long term solution. Shaq might be. If not, we'll put him on the upgrade list.

Good luck waiting on an upgrade. He's the second best CB behind Gamble in our franchise history.
