Why Winning Now Will Cost Us About 15 Years

I get what you guys are saying but I also think that football is very different than most sports where there are so many players. A QB being the most important obviously.

But there is no sure thing. We had the #1 overall pick in Cam and how many winning seasons did we have with him? It takes a lot more than 1 player.

Yes and with cam alone he was able to push us to the bring of a super bowl and a 15-1 franchise best season ever. Thats the power of a number 1 pick. He lead us to 3 back to back division titles...  the nfl all time leader in rushing touchdowns at the qb position and he's only 31? That cam? He was a generational talent. Those don't fall.

Recent number 1 over all picks at QB position.

Joe Burrow - TBD

Kyler Murray - TBD

Baker Mayfield - Still TBD...but.....meh

Goff - Anyone impressed?

Winston - Mr 30/30

Luck - Colts never achieved anything

Newton - We know what happened

Sam Bradford - Greatest Conman ever to get those contracts

Stafford - ..um ok

Jamarcus Russel - No comment

Alex Smith - I mean.  He was ok

I can see why one would think, based on the last 15 years, that a number 1 over all pick QB is required to go to the Superbowl.

You guys are dense.

Every one of those picks required random chance to happen.

You'd rather rely on random chance vs controlling your own destiny and picking the guy you absolutely want without having to compromise (skill set)

Cam wasn't alone.  We had a good offensive line, Stewart and Olsen were very good, and our defense got a lot of takeaways. In fact, without some critical Josh Norman int's, and a boatload of turnovers committed by famous Jameis, we might have started that season 1-3 or 2-2 as the offense was struggling.  Yeah the receivers weren't probowlers, but there are other positions on the field that are important.

I heart spanish radio highlights so much and I don't speak a lick of spanish.  I was in the nosebleeds at BOFA for the 2015 NFC Championship game when we destroyed Arizona and the entire row in front of us was hispanic guys with their capes. Every time we scored a touchdown they went apeshit. It wasn't just the most fun I've ever had at a football game, it was was of the greatest nights of my life.  Hispanic football fans are a blast. Those guys know how to celebrate big plays.

Good offensive line? That line that ended up being the number 1 reason we lost to the broncos? The one von Miller and the gang  Decimated? The line was exposed vs good pass rushers. Cam extending plays made the look better than they were.

Not talking about that list.

I'm saying the teams that got those players got lucky because the other teams didn't take their player.

Face it the odds of getting the guy you want most goes down with every spot in the draft.

    • No saying he mostly sucks is saying that he doesn’t suck the minority of the time.   Like if he took 17 tests and had a couple of really good showings and a handful of pretty good scores sprinkled in among the typical sub par results.   Like a golfer who went out and shot an 89.  There will be some real nice shots sprinkled in there but at the end of the day it is still 89.
    • It's worth mentioning... Game 1: Oct 11 in Raleigh. 4-3 OT win with a complete starting lineup. Game 2: Dec 13 in Philly. 4-3 SO win without Jaccob Slavin. Game 3: Dec 14 in Raleigh. 3-2 SO win with a complete starting lineup. Game 4: Apr 13 in Philly. 3-2 SO loss with the AHL roster.  Those early season games were no indication of the Canes team that finished the season. Miller and Ehlers were still trying to figure things out, Nikishin was still a work in progress and the Stankoven line was just another line. Make no mistake, the Canes team Philly will see is nothing close to what they saw at any point in the season. If the top line starts producing, Freddie stays hot and the blue line does what it does, this could be a sweep as well.
