Texans agree to hire Patriots Caserio

Longtime Texans beat writer John McClain added some info with regard to the coaching search.

Caserio will reportedly join owner Cal McNair in the coaching search, but three candidates have already been interviewed without him: Jim Caldwell, Marvin Lewis and Joe Brady. The Texans reportedly also want to interview Titans OC Arthur Smith and Colts DC Matt Eberflus but may wait since their teams are in the playoffs.

Other names could potentially be added, including Bills OC Brian Daboll, 49ers DC Robert Saleh and Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy. Daboll and Caserio go back a long way from Daboll's time with the Patriots.

One person who reportedly won't be a candidate: Josh McDaniels (McClain didn't elaborate as to why).

This is a SERIOUS red flag for McDaniels. Ya know, if the disaster in Denver and the 11th hour spurning of the Colts weren't enough of a red flag for anyone.

It could be that he's been promised the Patriots job as soon as Belichick retires, but he was a candidate here just last year so who can say?

It's also being speculated that the Patriots are about to bleed coaching and front office staff talent. Caserio is already gone, Monti Ossenfort left last year and Pro Personnel Chief Dave Ziegler is a candidate for GM of the Broncos.

The rats might be deserting the ship.

Good I hope some one hires Jeff Ireland before us next that’ll be both my two least favorite candidates gone. Ed Dodds or Ryan Poles are my two guys.

We already interviewed ireland, and the only other team I know of that's doing so is the Lions (this Friday).

He and Matt Rhule are friends. Rhule is also said to "greatly respect" Ireland and Albert Breer reported that the team has "done a lot of homework" on him already.

Usually gm's like to have their own coach. Not the other way around. This is why tepper fuged up and will continue to fug up. We will hire the giants guy.

Reese? Wouldn't bet on it.

Besides, a couple of our GM candidates are already buddies with our head coach so they'd be "getting their guy" anyway.

Yeah man thanks to your detailed breakdowns (idk how you do it lol) I’ve gathered as much. I know he’s absolutely a possibility which is why I want him hired sooner than later by a team that isn’t the Panthers. I don’t want another retread I want some one new with new ideas who’s hungry to get it right the first time (although I’m certain he’s picked up some things while in NO). And after reading the athletic piece on him from 2019 I’m almost all in for Dodds for better or worse.

I prefer Peters or Dodds, but I could live with Ireland or Schoen.

For the record, as of right now it appears we're the only team set to interview Adam Peters.

There's been a lot of speculation that the Broncos would look to bring him back. So far the Broncos have requested interviews with three candidates. Peters isn't one of them.

Likewise, earlier today 49ers GM John Lynch was asked by a reporter about interview requests. He said Peters had only one (obviously, us).

If I am McDaniels and I had the choice to wait on the Patriots job, or go take the Texans job, I'm moving to Houston.

Neither team is good right now, but the Texans have a very good franchise QB locked into a contract. With that most important piece in place, it makes things easier to build a team around. The Patriots have lost talent, and most of the remaining talent is getting older.  Patriots need a overhaul including at QB

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
