Non-Draft Left Tackle Option?

Sounds like their may be trouble in Baltimore for their mauling RT Orlando Brown, who wants to be a LT. With a new GM who’s said to be in on every trade I wonder if this will be worth a look. He’s on his rookie deal next year, so the cost would probably be a 3rd rounder.

Interested?

I don’t see them moving him to another team for a third rounder. With him being on a rookie deal that increases his trade value.

I can't see a 24 year old OT coming off of a Pro Bowl season at LT getting traded for a 3rd rounder. If we could get him for a 3rd that's a complete no brainier IMO.

**I AM NOT SAYING DO IT, just playing the off-season La-Z-Boy GM game**, but, do you think Moton and a mid round 3-4th) pick would do it? They get rid of a player that doesn't want to be there, get a proven RT and a pick. We get a LT, get rid of Moton's soon-to-be salary, and RT's are a little easier to find on days 2-3 than a LT.

That swap makes complete sense which means there’s no chance of it happening.

There's no way I'd make that trade. We'd still be in the same place of having one tackle and needing another one. Moton has shown promise at LT in the past too. Another thing to consider is that playing well at LT in the Ravens' offense isn't automatically translatable to other systems. They run less traditional passing plays than any other team in the league, probably a lot less. They were last in the league in pass attempts, completions, and yards.

Moton is a free agent. He isn't our's to trade.

I haven’t deep dived into their cap but I’m hard pressed to believe to believe they’ll have cap to sign him after giving Lamar $40M a year this offseason in addition to extending Peters, Humphries, Stanley, and the cap not increasing due to COVID.

They'll get a late 3rd compensatory in 2023 if he walks after next year. From the Ravens perspective they’d get an early 3rd in 2021 in exchange for 1 year of play from Brown & a compensatory 3rd in 2023.

I'd be very leery of giving Lamar $40M+ per season. These dud playoff performances have become the norm for him. He's 1-3 in the playoffs now. His completion percentage is almost 10 percentage points lower in the playoffs. He's only thrown 18 regular season INTs in 46 regular season games but he's thrown 5 in 4 playoff games vs. a mere 3 TDs. He only has one playoff game where he completed over 60% of his attempts and it's the only one the Ravens actually won - in large part because their D absolutely shut down the league leading opposing RB.

    • I have said if you out even an average QB into the offense we are averaging 25+ points a game. But that will never happen with Bryce under center.
    • The defense is 28 out of 32 in salary cap allocation for 2025. We have a ton of resources tied up in the offense including the highest paid OL in the league multiple 1st round WR's and multiple recent draft picks across the offense at TE and RB and we have two 1000 yard backs. Bryce and company couldn't get past Tyler Shough and his crew in 2 games. That's all there is to it. You can spin it and put the entire onus on the defense to your heart's desire it doesn't change the fact that this is an OFFENSIVE team now. If you want to argue that we should revert back to a defensive identity as we have been in the past which has brought us success then I will agree with you on that. But as it stands the onus is on the offense because that is where we have invested through the nose. Dave Canales and Bryce Young need to do a hell of a lot better than they have against the rebuilding Saints who without us should only have 2 wins this season.
    • Bryce is not trending up. He is the same QB he has always been. Bottom of the league in most categories.  If Canales thinks he can build a contender with Bryce then he is a bigger idiot then I thought.  Offense next year will have the same issues and be just as inconsistent as it was this year.  We have seen Bryce’a ceiling and it is 175 yards a game and that is not a QB you keep around as your starter. That is barely a backup.
