The Last Touchdown we scored sunday...

With the score 21-20, D-Will took it in for 6 making it 27-20. My question was why did we not gor for 2??? If we get it its a two possesion game. If not were still up by a TD and the Giants arent going to go for the win if they score. They would have played for the tie and OT. Now I know everyone will say, "well by taking the point after we made it an 8 point game." But with the way the Giants were freakin running the ball, why not try to make it a two posession game and essentially put them away.

It was just something I noticed and was confused about. Thoughts?

Gamecocks,

You will probably be flamed here so I think I will play devils advocate and defend you. First thing, I don't blame Fox because no coach even thinks about doing what you mentioned. But I think it should be considered in the right situation. Why? Because the success rate is historically around 40 to 55%. With the way our offense and defense was playing I think it was very likely that both 2 pt conversions would have been completed. For the sake of argument, if its basically 50% in going for it or not, I think coaches should consider it if both offenses are clearly in the groove. And also, if its late in the game.

JMHO

Honestly, that would have been a dumb move. IF we missed the 2pt conversion, we might as well made it easier for the giants to tie it up. I know hindsight is 20/20. We can say a lot of ifs ant buts, but in the end the game panned out the way it did. We lost but we will bounce back next week.

Go for 2? lol Isnt Carolina the team who has attempted a 4th down conversion the least out of any NFL team this year? FOX is and will always be a conservative coach. You can tell the guy is conservative just by watching his press conferences. The man is too reserved about EVERYTHING!!!

oh hes a conservative coach? didn't he try run up the score with a minute left in the second quarter against the vikings when we had a 10-0 lead?

    • If there's a pattern I'm definitely picking up from Dan and company is a philosophy of making trades where we try not to sacrifice the number of draft picks we have by day's end. In other words, we're not giving up three picks for one, or giving up a future pick to make a pick today. And even if we give up something at the start, we make trades later to make up for that initial loss. Here's how it stacked up for 2026: How we started: 19, 51, 83, 119, 158, 159, 200 How we ended: 19, 49, 83, 129, 144, 151, 227 (no future picks sacrificed) Ultimately, we moved up two spots in the second to ensure we got someone we coveted, gave up a few spots for our fourth round pick, but then had better picks in the 5th (and got really good value out of them), and had a worse 7th rounder which isn't that big of a loss anyways.  At this point, we can question who they draft, but they're pretty good maneuvering across the draft board.
    • I just saw the funniest thing...or very disappointing, depending how you handle misery. A guy on YouTube did a 2027 'way too early' mock draft.  If I told you the simulator has the Panthers selecting in the top 10 , what would you say?  If I told you it was pick #8 and only two QBs were taken in the top 7, what would you say?  If I told you this dude had us taking a defensive player, what would you say?
    • It is due diligence at that point. Irresponsible not to take him.  Crossing my fingers on this one, he has everything you look for except experience.
