Pretty sure 3 of the 4 Kings goals came off rebounds. The 4th on the breakaway.

But, as long as there are 2 points at the end of the day...

There’s been a lot of odd man rushes against us on this road trip… not sure if it’s the time zone or what but we aren’t playing our best hockey right now. Both goalies are giving us a chance though.

What I saw:

  • 23 shots is not going to get it done. And the only goal was from a defenseman.  11 of the 23 shots came from the blue liners. Meanwhile, these guys each had 1 shot on goal: Aho, Troc, Staal, Nino, Jarvis, Necas.
  • No net front presence. Nino, Tro, Staal- you can usually count on those guys to be in front, but not last night.
  • KK and Jarvis are both playing better than Svech right now.
  • Did Turbo make this road trip, because he's been MIA for a couple games now.

But look, a west coast swing with a possible 8 points on the line thus far and the Canes have 7. I was thinking 8 points would be a good trip, but between Seattle and Philly, I can see 9.

23 shots and 23 blocked shots. Defense have started selling out to block everything we throw and help their goalies. We really should have tried to move to the close game, and should in general in the future until we can open up our lanes again. Also only 39% on the face offs. That’s abysmal.

Yeah, I didn't even mention the faceoff circle. Terrible on the draws, and this wasn't a game that saw a lot of icing calls, so it's not like we didn't have the preferred guy taking the draw.

But, imagine this- the Canes are 14-2-1 and we're bitching about their performance. Any other team makes this road trip and they'd feel lucky to get 6 of the 12 points available.

Ya, the toughest part too is we have an identical road trip coming up in early December, through Canada and Minnesota. We better be on point for that one with 4 very good teams + Vancouver.

I think the worst part about last night though wasn’t the loss but the fact the capitals gained a point on us in their same western states road trip.

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
