Possible Cuts for Cap Savings

Signing Armstead would make a ton of sense from a strictly personnel standpoint. Proven LT that pushes BC inside. Allows you to trade down and pick up more draft capital and could very likely still come away with a guy like Linderbaum or Ekonwu.

I would be surprised if we sign a LT to draft a QB.

Hes hurt.  He is on the wrong side of 30.  We have tried this before (hello Kalil) and it severely handicaps you.  Plus for him to come here we would have to throw the bank at him.

So was Trent Williams and the same exact argument was made on him on this same message board. Now everyone is mad we didn't sign him.

Matt Kalil was never good even before he signed. That's the difference.

Too many good tackles in this year's draft (on a rookie deal, keep in mind) to take a swipe at an aging, very highly paid OT with injury concerns.

And that's a fair argument. To be honest, I REALLY like Cross.

But if we think Armstead can be healthy (big IF), it's also very intriguing to have something like Armstead + Linderbaum/Ekonwu + additional draft pick instead of only Cross.

Williams was never a F/A.   And I would rather not take my chances giving someone record money who is already hurt when we can simply draft a guy.

Bouye and Daley are the only players that make a whole lot of sense to part ways with.  That's only $6 million in savings, which translates in free agency to acquiring one pretty decent player or a couple of above average guys. In the grand scheme of things, not much difference.

    • And again, the TLDR of the above is........ My expectations for T-Mac's rookie season have nothing to do with him and more because of my expectations for the rest of the WR room. I think his 2nd season when we then lose Thielen and replace him by just shifting everyone else up a spot in the pecking order and replace him with an end of the bench guy, is when he explodes for a huge yardage season. XL and Coker wouldn't make a good 1/2 combo with Thielen in the slot.  But T-Mac as the 1 with Thielen in the slot has the real potential to make XL/Coker an actual elite 2/4 combo.  Drafting T-Mac drastically changes the potential impact of those two, if anything, that's the biggest thing taking him did to the offense. Because honestly, how many teams have a 3rd and 4th receiving option as good as XL and Coker?
    • good one though it’s really no joke. I know a few friends and family members that suffer with this condition.
    • There's nothing normal about a 73 year old dating a 24 year old and a wildly successful NFL coach going to the college level in his twilight years is unprecedented. Yeah, raving success or absolute clown show. We'll see how it plays out on the field but this is why I was always very apprehensive about going after Belichick. The odds of it going the clown show route seem to be increasing by the day.
