Starting The Second Half Busy: The Canes begin the "second half" of their regular season schedule with a stretch of four road games in six days. After tonight in Toronto the team will continue on for a meeting in Ottawa tomorrow, Boston Thursday and then Minnesota Saturday. It's the beginning of 40 games in 80 days for the team, leading to the end of the campaign.

Let's Pick Up Where We Left Off: Carolina entered the break after earning four wins in six days. The team is 7-1 in their last eight outings.

Just Fine Away From Home: Rod Brind'Amour's club is 15-5-1 away from PNC Arena this season, matching the New York Rangers for the most wins on the road among any team in the NHL this season.

Maple Syrup For Neci: In three career games against the Maple Leafs, Hurricanes forward Martin Necas has recorded six points.

Kotkaniemi Out: Sunday afternoon the team announced that forward Jesperi Kotkaniemi has entered COVID-19 Protocol, rendering him out of commission for at least the team's games tonight and tomorrow. It will be the first games missed of the season for the 21-year-old center, who totaled 20 points in the club's first 42 games.

Tervainen TBD: Following practice Sunday afternoon Rod Brind'Amour said that Teuvo Teravainen could be a game-time decision tonight, still battling the lower-body injury he suffered on January 21. "Turbo" participated in practice at Wake Competition Center, but that doesn't necessarily mean he is for sure in tonight.

Milestone Watch: Antti Raanta is one win shy of 100 in his NHL career. Derek Stepan is two points shy of 500 for his NHL career.

Forwards:

Martinook - Aho - Necas

Svechnikov - Trocheck - Jarvis

Niederreiter - Staal - Fast

Lorentz - Stepan - Teravainen*

Defensemen:

Slavin - DeAngelo

Skjei - Pesce

Smith - Cole

Starting Goalie:

Andersen

COVID-19 Protocol:

Jesperi Kotkaniemi

Game-Time Decision:

Teuvo Teravainen (Lower-Body)

    • If there's a pattern I'm definitely picking up from Dan and company is a philosophy of making trades where we try not to sacrifice the number of draft picks we have by day's end. In other words, we're not giving up three picks for one, or giving up a future pick to make a pick today. And even if we give up something at the start, we make trades later to make up for that initial loss. Here's how it stacked up for 2026: How we started: 19, 51, 83, 119, 158, 159, 200 How we ended: 19, 49, 83, 129, 144, 151, 227 (no future picks sacrificed) Ultimately, we moved up two spots in the second to ensure we got someone we coveted, gave up a few spots for our fourth round pick, but then had better picks in the 5th (and got really good value out of them), and had a worse 7th rounder which isn't that big of a loss anyways.  At this point, we can question who they draft, but they're pretty good maneuvering across the draft board.
    • I just saw the funniest thing...or very disappointing, depending how you handle misery. A guy on YouTube did a 2027 'way too early' mock draft.  If I told you the simulator has the Panthers selecting in the top 10 , what would you say?  If I told you it was pick #8 and only two QBs were taken in the top 7, what would you say?  If I told you this dude had us taking a defensive player, what would you say?
    • It is due diligence at that point. Irresponsible not to take him.  Crossing my fingers on this one, he has everything you look for except experience.
