Mitchell Trubisky is the best play

Mike Sando on Trubisky (from the Pick Six article quoted in the other thread)

4. Speaking of QB desperation, perhaps you’ve seen reports Mitch Trubisky could be in demand as a starter, commanding an eight-figure contract.

Imagine studying Trubisky’s career, noticing the Chicago Bears had a 35-25 (.558) record in all his starts and thinking that kind of team success might be replicable elsewhere with Trubisky in the lineup. Believing that requires focusing on the Bears’ questionable offensive coaching/personnel and thinking one season as a backup in Buffalo has helped Trubisky, while discounting quantifiable factors. The best thing about 2021 for Trubisky’s asking price was the fact he didn’t have to play.

Trubisky is one of 55 quarterbacks to make at least 30 regular-season and postseason starts over the past decade. His Chicago offenses ranked 40th out of the 55 in expected points added (EPA) per game, according to TruMedia. His combined Bears defenses and special teams ranked third among the 55.

If you’ve got a dominant defense/special teams, you might also win 56% of your games despite getting poor production from your quarterback/offense. If you do not possess those things and decide to sign Trubisky anyway, you’re betting on a Trubisky-led offense performing better than Trubisky-led offenses have performed across 60 starts in the past — perhaps much better, depending on how weak your defense/special teams might be.

If you bring him in here on a reasonable contract ( below average ) to compete with Darnold...bet. Otherwise get a Vet FA and roll with him and Darnold and spend nothing in draft capital on a QB this year. We gotta get the fug out of this mess.

    • No saying he mostly sucks is saying that he doesn’t suck the minority of the time.   Like if he took 17 tests and had a couple of really good showings and a handful of pretty good scores sprinkled in among the typical sub par results.   Like a golfer who went out and shot an 89.  There will be some real nice shots sprinkled in there but at the end of the day it is still 89.
    • It's worth mentioning... Game 1: Oct 11 in Raleigh. 4-3 OT win with a complete starting lineup. Game 2: Dec 13 in Philly. 4-3 SO win without Jaccob Slavin. Game 3: Dec 14 in Raleigh. 3-2 SO win with a complete starting lineup. Game 4: Apr 13 in Philly. 3-2 SO loss with the AHL roster.  Those early season games were no indication of the Canes team that finished the season. Miller and Ehlers were still trying to figure things out, Nikishin was still a work in progress and the Stankoven line was just another line. Make no mistake, the Canes team Philly will see is nothing close to what they saw at any point in the season. If the top line starts producing, Freddie stays hot and the blue line does what it does, this could be a sweep as well.
