How the Mayfield trade came about

Yeah...that's not a reason.

I genuinely hope Corral is a good quarterback, but if Mayfield proves to be the guy I'll be okay with that too.

If it becomes apparent in camp and preseason that Corral has "IT" and the backups don't why not? Do what they should have done with Cam, play him in the preseason and trade him to the Bears for picks, assets.

Seattle loves him.

They are backup grade QBs each for different reasons.

Yeah, the Bears aren't looking for a QB.

And if Seattle loved him, they'd have offered something. They never did.

Seattle does not love Baker Mayfield. They never seriously engaged in trade talks with Cleveland. They let us get him for a 4th/5th round pick while sticking Cleveland with the bulk of his salary. You don't "love" a guy and then fail to make that deal.

Corral is extremely unlikely to play at a higher level than Mayfield and even Darnold early in camp or likely at any point early this season even if he is ultimately the guy and better than them overall. There is a serious learning curve in the NFL, and I hope Corral makes the jump quick, but I'm not giving up on him as a prospect even if he doesn't see the field this year.

"IT"

Some people have it. Some people have less of it. Juice.

Makes this a even worse trade when you put it that way. They kicked the tires.

Baker is the least of our worries. We need to take out the Jets trash that is littering a stench cloud in the building.

Can the QB1 of 2021 from the SEC best two failed QBs who already had their chances? Back ups?

Possible. If he looks like himself last season that's better than Zach Wilson and maybe as good or better than Mac Jones.

Neither of whom are that much better OR worse than the SECs Matt Corral.

You don't want to put the kid in position to fail. If he's the best option, play him. If he needs time to sit and learn have options available so that you're not forced to play him too soon. This is a rarity for Panthers fans. We actually watched the Panthers make a smart, calculated move.

    • Any idea what happened to him at LSU? im reading that he was considered a 1st round pick in 2023, had an off 2024 season with only 4 sacks but was also on a horrible FSU team then went to LSU where he was supposed to be on an aggressive defense that should have given him a lot of sacks but he only ended up with one….   was he injured? Did the top SEC competition expose him? What happened? Cause this guy was considered a top prospect .
    • Sometimes its fun to read the threads/posts.  The panthers could literally hire a groundskeeper and we'd have a thread "improving the field for no other reason to prop up Bryce Young".  Apparently no move is ever done to actually make the team better.  All a conspiracy to just focus on Bryce Young. Or suddenly daydreaming and reminiscing about Sam Darnold when he was hated more than Bryce Young.  Its really fun to do a message board search about Darnold during that time period.   Or thinking there is just a tree that grows QB, and you can just easily go up and pluck one.
    • Yeah okay. We as an organization have been more patient with him than many. And there has been a small parade of guys drafted since he was, also to bad teams, that have passed him. Some have lapped him. As a fan I am out of patience but he gets this year it is out of my hands always has been. I just hope the bar is higher than it has been for him.    FWIW, XL dropped two passes last year. He did do some other bad stuff, just saying.
