Just for the sake of discussion, is there a correlation between size and injury?

We're basically hoping that Bryce Young is the football equivalent of Allen Iverson. While basketball is certainly nothing compared to football in terms of the physical toll on the body, that was also a different era of basketball. Iverson got pounded on. With his style of play it was amazing he held up. But he did. He was certainly an anomaly in terms of size on an NBA court. He was only about 165.

You can do that when you have elite skills/talent. That's what Bryce fans see in his film.

It's not common sense. It's literally a data point that he would be the smallest in modern history.   There are multiple layered reasons for this.

but it's all just supposition that he's going to have a short career and injury prone because of his size.

there's no debating his size, and i think his playing weight is around 190. its just a data point, nothing more.

there's nothing to show that he'd be more prone to injury than QBs 10, 20, or even 30 pounds more than him. if the only factor in play was his size, then that would probably be an issue. but there's a whole lot more to the story than his size. Tua wasn't concussed frequently because of his size compared to other QBs.

Skills and talent have little to do with injuries. There's a looooooong list of guys with elite potential who have been detailed by injuries. A lot is due to things you can't control - mainly genetics and luck.

Question, without Alabama's blue chip line and say an Ole' Miss line instead, would he be the same player or still be in one piece?

A team picking top ten usually doesn't have the best offensive line in NFL football.

I guess I wasnt super impressed with Bama's line this year, I think it definitely was average at best. I do wonder for both him and CJ what would have happened without what they had.

Does Bryce end up just getting washed out early by all the pressure in his face trying to be super man or is he able to win by doing what he does.

Does CJ Stroud without 2 first round caliber tackles show a lot more of those struggles vs the pass rush or does he get to show actual ability in that regard more having to deal with it, like he did vs Georgia.

Average? Alabama's OL was AVERAGE? 😂

Maybe average for a top 10 team. Definitely not average among the totality of the 125 D1 football teams.

He's too small. I'm not in charge though. If he is the pick I certainly hope he is able to overcome what seems like a disadvantage.

Additionally, we have all seen players that perform magnificently in college and then falter at the next level, for various reasons.

Answer: Yes

And we have a top 10 OL when healthy

I guess this very much ties into my stance. There are a ton of players who are injury prone of all sizes, its so much to do with genetics and luck. I still think about how unlucky Cam was that tackle attempt vs the Charges started his downward trend. I'm sure weight goes somewhat into the equation honestly both ways, running to much weight on your frame can cause injuries as well, but I think end of the day no one knows how injury prone any specific player is going to be, there are so many variables to it. Not sure how you can discount anyone really.

Bama's online last year comped to what they usually run with was middle of the pack SEC, it was really surprising tbh.

Year before they were fantastic. So its not like he had to depend on an "average" (poor guy) line his whole career or anything. It was plenty enough to be a positive for him.

The only actual data in this thread points to Stroud being more at risk of injury than Young due to weight. It's not definitive, but more convincing than all the gut feels of Huddle posters.

There's no crystal ball, that's for sure. NFL front offices LOVE comps though. They get nervous with outliers.

Make no mistake, Bryce Young's size is being rigorously debated behind closed doors among every team holding a high pick and looking at QBs.

That's the thing though. People watching Bama are accustomed to basically seeing an NFL OL. Virtually everyone that starts meaningful games at Bama on the OL is going to get a shot at the NFL.
